nbc 10's pamela osborne is live at the scene.am, even police are recognizing how tragic this was so early in the new year. tell us. >> katy, they were. the victim here a 71-year-old man. they say he was retired military. he was likely just walking home tonight, when he was hit in the early hours of this morning. take a look. this is a gruesome scene. investigators still here on chew avenue piecing to the the evidence. a 25-year-old man is in police custody right now. here's what we know. at 1:40 this morning police were called to the area of 12th and chew when they got here, they found that 71-year-old dead in the street. police say the car that struck him, a mercury sable, was going eastbound on chew avenue. the impact was so severe that he was either thrown or dragged a block down away from where police believe he was actually hit. the driver attempted to flee the scene but crashed a short distance later into a fence. that's where police caught up with him. he was transported to the hospital to be treated for a broken leg. poli

nbc 10's pamela osborne is live in washington with a preview of the march. pam? >> reporter: this is expected to be the single largest demonstration of protesters here in washington. 200,000 people are expected to attend and participate although the city is prepared up to 400,000 people. now we have some brand new video we'll show you of some of those demonstrators leaving 30th street station in philadelphia. the pennsylvania chapter tells us they are expecting anywhere from 12 to 20,000 people to travel to washington for the march here. the women and men who are participating represent more than 30 different groups. organizers say it's to send a bold message to president trump that women's rights are human rights and not just that, they are protesting for criminal justice reform, women's reproductive rights, lgbtq rights and equal pay. >> i think it means a lot to me to go see so many people who feel as strongly as i do that we have to stand up and we can't just let things be the way they are. >> reporter: the indigo girl singers will be here in attendance. i wa

nbc 10's pamela osborn talked to some of the residents that escaped with their lives. they have quite a story to tell. she joins us live from old city. pamela? >> reporter: they certainly do, tracy. investigators are still trying to determine a cause for that fire. but take a look, you can see where it started, on the upper level right by that roof, we talked to the woman who lives just below the roof. the says fire was stripping from her ceiling. david moran says he was sound asleep at 4:30 this morning when -- >> all of a sudden i heard a young lady out in the hallway yelling "fire," banging on doors. >> reporter: as soon as he got up, he started knocking on his neighbors doors on the fourth floor. everyone was trying to help. >> a gentleman on my floor was trying to pull the pull station, but no alarm ever went off. >> reporter: the fire was burning on the roof where just below jung park and her

nbc10's pamela osborne joins us live. pam, crews have their work out out for them today. >> reporter: absolutely, rosemary, you can see a portion of brook road remains closed and will remain closed until further notice. it's a bit difficult to see from the ground and in the dark. take a look at this video from skyforce 10. you can get a better idea of how big that sinkhole actually is. and you can see how close the ground opened up to this home which was evacuated. yesterday, they started pumping the sinkhole with cement to stabilize the surrounding ground. a six-inch cast iron main broke so customers are without water. aqua crews did restore water stores but with a boil water advisory. customers are to continue to boil their water until further notice. one resident we spoke to yesterday said she's not taking any chances. >> i've got a lot of water. i'm not trusting the water out here no way. >> we're fingers crossed that nothing else is going to happen. >> reporter: and reps for aqua water said the crews poured concrete

nbc 10 pamela osborne live on scene in zionsville. >> at this point in time, the fire is under control. step out of the way and show you. you can see firefighters still there around one of those buildings. i want to show you some video from last night when this fire started. now, firefighters right now working to get those hot spots under control. there are sealed roofs on top of these greenhouses. during that fire, one of the roofers on top of the greenhouse collapsed actually covering some of the stuff that was below it so they have been unable to get that area wet.  so that brought in heavy equipment here to remove the steel roof so they can get water down on the areas to extinguish the remaining hot spots. that has been the biggest challenge for fire fighters

pamela osborne is live at the prosecutor's office in camden with the latest. what do we know about this. >> i've been making phone calls to see what information i'm able to come up with. police not taking any questions at this time. they referred me to the camden county prosecutor's office and the only thing the office is saying this morning is that no charges have been filed in the death of 8-year-old sailer rider. our sources confirm she is the daughter of a stratford police officer. investigators say sailer died suddenly in her home on new year's eve. what we do know is that a 911 call was placed on saturday before 2:00 in the afternoon. we requested that call from investigators and we received it this morning. what you're about to hear is the brother of that 8-year-old talking to a 911 operator about his sister who was found unresponsive upstairs in the family home. >> how old is your niece? >> she's 8 years old. >> she's 8? okay. and she's -- listen to me. listen to my questions. she's unconscious? >> i don't know exactly. my mom just went upstairs and fo

reporting live at the art museum steps, i'm pamela osborne, nbc 10 news. >> pamela, thanks. well it's warm here. one part of the pacific northwest is dealing with, you guessed it, snow. take a look at the scene in portland oregon. traffic is moving slowly on one highway there after a storm dumped several inches of snow. some cars ended up buried in snow banks. those vehicles could be stuck there for awhile because the snow is not expected to melt for days. >> members of the miami heat basketball team are a little shaken up today but overall okay after their plane slid on a runway in milwaukee. several other flights were cancelled at the airport last night because of icy conditions. >> we have new video of a water main break in philadelphia's strawberry mansion neighborhood that sent water shooting well into the air. this is cell phone video from clearfield street. the break happened before 10:30 this morning. crew versus turned off the water in the area and there's no word yet on how many homes have been effected. >> in baltimore officials have found the body of one child an

nbc 10 pamela osborne live at the scene. give us an update on what's happening there. >> reporter: yes, as you mentioned, firefighters have been here since last night at the farm. this is a greenhouse facility. very large property with many large buildings. you can see that from behind some of tv flashing lights there. the fire broke out several hours ago. we want to show you some video that we took overnight. this was an intense fire. several different departments across counties are responding. now, we aren't seeing any flames this morning, but firefighters on the scene tell me they are still working this. we're seeing quite a bit of smoke here. pulling up, we could see a lattla ladder that was extended up. we also pass add water tanker. trying to get more information for you this morning. we just got on scene a couple of minutes ago. as soon as we touch base with fire officials and get more information, we'll give you an update. see you in the next half hour. reporting live, pamela osborne, nbc 10 news. >>> 5:37. mild sta

nbc 10 pamela osborne live on the scene in scionsville. pam, tell us more about it. >> reporter: we are about a half mile away from where the fire was. i say was because the fire is now out. during the fire fight, the roof of one of the greenhouses collapsed. the roof is steel. when it came down, it covered some of the area of fire they couldn't reach. right now firefighters using heavy equipment to remove the roof and get the hot spots below it. this has been the biggest challenge. that have i been having tankers come in and out with additional water to help them fight the fire. several greenhouses on this property. firefighters did a very good job keeping the fire contained to one greenhouse. one is looking like a loss. another greenhouse just had minor damage. as to the cause that is yet to be determined. fire officials telling me this morning seems as though the fire may have started in a loading dock where there were plants and packaging waiting to be delivered to stores. what happens next, i can tell you a lot of these guys have been

. >>> nbc 10 pamela osborne following developments. joins us live from the scene. >> reporter: we are at emily and 26th street right now. going to step out of the way and point your attention to that mercedes vehicle right there. that is where the gunshot victim was found. now according to police, the victim got into an argument at a bar near 46th street and walnut. this was around 2:00 this morning. when the victim's friend found him, he was unresponsive. unresponsive put him in their car and drove him here to south philly. when they got here, they were unable to walk him up to talk to him. that's when they called police. the victim was rushed to the hospital and that's where they covered he had been shot in the chest. he was pronounced dead at the hospital. we know the police are in the area of walnut street right now checking surveillance cameras in the area in hopes of getting some more information about suspects or who they could be looking for in this case. reporting live now in south philly, pamela osborne, nbc 10 news. >>> see

nbc 10 pamela osborne live outside the criminal justice center where the hearing will happen later today. pam, walk us through what's going to happen. >> several things are going to with happening inside of the courtroom today. expecting to hear from a detective who interviewed one of the prosecutions key witnesses in the case. the defendant will argue the detective who interviewed that main witness, an alleged victim, gave inconsistent statements about the abuse. they say the prosecution never told them and allowed the alleged victim to testify anyway. prosecution is calling that absu absurd. the judge will be deciding on if there is -- if the guilty plea of a priest who he is accused of covering up for will be allowed if there is a new trial as well. montsignor william lynn first in the church to be convicted for the super vision of priest. conviction was thrown out. lynn released from prison in august. vacated 2012 conviction. district attorney's office decided not to drop charges. prosecutors will be pursuing a new trial. judge will be hearing from both sides today at 2:00 if this do

nbc 10's pamela osborne is live in fern rock. pam, police have even said this is tragic because the man was so close to home when he was killed. just in his neighborhood. >> it certainly is, katie. this entire neighborhood waking up to that tragedy that unfolded on this block. police say that 71-year-old man, a retired military man, was crossing the street just steps away from where we're standing right now when he was struck and killed by a driver as you mentioned, who never even stopped. veteran officers describe the scene as grisly. it was 1:40 this morning when police were called to the intersection of 12th and chew. when they got there they found that 71-year-old victim dead in the street. police say the mercury sable that hit limb was going eastbound on chew avenue. the impact so severe that the victim was either thrown or dragged a block away from where police believe he was actually hit. the 25-year-old driver attempted to flee the scene but was caught when his car crashed into a fence. the driver was transported to the h
