nbc10's pamela osborne just arrived at the scene. tell us more how this unfolded. >> reporter: detectives just arrived to the scene, as well. we have some brand-new information from police. here's what we know now. two men walked into the 7-eleven store, both of them were wearing masks. one of the men told the clerk to open the register, and he did. he handed over the money that was inside of the register. that's when the suspect demanded the clerk open a second register and hand over that money, as well. when the clerk wasn't able to do that, the suspect shot him in the shoulder and took off on foot. police do have one person in custody. they are only calling him a person of interest. they do not believe that he was the shooter. they are going to be transporting him to the hospital so that the victim can take a look at him. the store, as you see as we come out live, is closed right now as police try to track down the shooter who was wearing a partial mask. that clerk, by the way, is in stable condition at area torresdale hospital. w

nbc10's pamela osborne joins us live in east falls. a woman who was driving by witnessed the attack. tell us more how this is unfolding. >> reporter: yeah, the woman witnessed that man get attacked and then carjacked. this happened after 7:00 last night near the intersection of fox street and roberts avenue. police tell us a man stepped out of a brown minivan and beat up the driver of another car. it didn't end there. the minivan's door opened, and here's what police say happened next -- >> when the person winning the ridc minivan. and laid him down in the back of the minivan and continued to assault him. >> that's something like in the movie, it's sad, dangerous out here. >> reporter: investigators say another man took the victim's car, and the two suspects were inside of the minivan. that car drove away. police have not issued a missing persons report. they asking anyone with information about this incident to come forward. reporting live now in east falls, pamela osborne, nbc10 news. >> thank you. >>> we're following several other b

nbc10's pamela osborne joins us live from the airport. will people be crowding the airport and roads for the holiday weekend? >> reporter: yeah, they certainly will. going back to the weather situation, the faa delayed several flights. there have been residual delays this morning as we enter into the holiday weekend. it is going to be a busy one this memorial day. aaa is projecting the highest travel volume since 2005. what does that mean here locally? almost 29,000 people will fly to their destinations this memorial day. that's up almost 5% from last year and nearly 410,000 people from our area will be hitting the roadways. the pennsylvania turnpike commission says between this afternoon and monday, they're expecting to see more than two million vehicles on the roadways. reporting live, pamela osborne. >> thank you. 5:35. 60 degrees. >>> we'll look at the stories we're following this morning -- >> two people recovering from minor injuries following a gas leak in gloucester county. it happened in an industrial park in swedesboro. official

pamela osborne, do we know how the child is doing now? >> reporter: she's still in critical condition. when police were called here, it was about 1:30 this morning. things definitely took a turn when police arrived on scene. the mother who was filing a police report for a stolen vehicle went inside to get more information for police. she found her daughter unresponsive with a bag over her head in the basement. she took the bag off, ran her daughter outside where police immediately started cpr. that officer actually continued doing cpr all the way to einstein hospital. police found several bags on the floor in the basement. that basement, a crime scene they say, was in disarray. as for the 7-year-old, doctors were able to find a pulse. she remains in critical condition. >> hopefully she survives after she was asphyxiated. the officers jumped into action, did an excellent job, and started doing cpr right on the front steps of this property. >> reporter: back to the car. police found the mother's wrecked vehicle about three blocks away from

nbc10's pamela osborne is live on scene. what have you learned?rter: we've learned quite a bit more since i saw you last. we know there were two suspects here. one was armed with a gun. police say the other stood at the door and acted as a lookout during the robbery. police say it happened after 4:00 this morning. there were not any customers but were two clerks inside of the store when the suspects who were both wearing masks entered. the armed suspect went right to the register. he pulled out his gun and demanded that one of the clerks open it up. the clerk did as he was told. he handed over the cash. he was still shot by the suspect. >> the male with the gun ordered him to open the other register, which he could not. because he could not, the male with the gun i guess got frustrated and fired at the employee. >> reporter: after the shooting, the lookout threw a bookbag in the store. the shooter stuffed the money in there, and both took off. the police set up patrols in the area and found a man hiding on top of a roof. they took the person into

pamela osborne live on how he fought for his freedom. >> reporter: as you said, shaurn thomas waking up as a free man for the first time in more than two decades thanks in part to the pennsylvania innocence project. thomas was convicted of a north philly homicide that nbc10 first covered in 1990. he was a teenager back then. at the time he claimed he was being held at the old youth center a few miles away for trying to steal a motorcycle. his attorney said that's what stood out about the case. thomas would have been at the youth center at the time of the homicide. a judge officially vacated the conviction 24 years later. and since his release yesterday, he spent every moment catching up on lost time with family who never once questioned his innocence. >> my little nephew. first time seeing him. handsome little guy. >> reporter: certainly a lot for him to catch up on. we'll have him here live for interviews. we'll look ahead at what's next for the newly freed man coming up in our :hour. -- our 6:00 hour. thanks. >>> coming up, picking more jurors in the bill cosby sexual assault trial
