panda cam in the panda den is the only way to see the new arrival. that's how zoo keepers first confirmed the panda birth. mei xiang, the mother, let out an investigation last night. >> we didn't see the cub come out but we saw her reaction, and it was the same kind of reaction she had when she had her first baby. >> reporter: she last gave birth in 2005. the 14-year-old mother had several pseudopregnancies since. doctors performed artificial insemination twice, and they finally took. >> she's obviously tired and wants to fall asleep. she will put her head down and as soon as that cub squauks, she wakes right up and cuddles him closer. >> reporter: the camera has provided a few glimpses of the pink and hairless new addition. >> the cub is very tiny, probably about four ounces at this point. wiggling a lot, very active, very vocal. no markings yet. the markings come in the next several weeks. you can see the progression. you'll be able to see on the panda cam. >> reporter: the panda exhibit is closed for the time being, but zoo visitors are still exci
