joining me now is msnbc contributor and host of msnbc field report, the great paola ramos also authorf "defectors, latinos, the rise of the far right and what it means for america." first of all, congratulations on that. i don't know how you're able to do that as well. amazing field reports. that's such a great and essential package to be watching right now as we talk about the latino vote but specifically the latino avangelical vote. who are latino evangelicals currently? >> i think that's the question democrats are asking themselves. they're seeing this coalition coming back home, and suddenly they're wondering are latino evangelicals coming with us, or are they starting to really replicate in the line with white ejan gelicals. it's really important to get that question right because it has huge, huge long-term implications. fastest growing group of evangelicals in the country. about 60% identify as latino evangelical. >> that's a huge segment. >> it's getting even bigger. you have scholars who predicts come 2030 over 60% of latinos will identify as evangelicals. a population that a

joining us this morning, nbc news contributor paola ramos, author of the new book "defectors." ere there last week. how is the issue of immigration playing there and how is it different there than maybe in other states? >> absolutely, i think let's remember that immigration is deeply personal for a lot of folks in arizona. this is a state where joe biden won in november of 2020 by less than 1%, jose. and part of the reason why he was able to win that vote is because latino voters that make up over a quarter of eligible voters in the battleground state like arizona, latino voters there were mobilized and inspired by the promise that joe biden made specifically on comprehensive immigration reform. they were mobilizing and inspired by this idea that he was able to really distance himself from donald trump, from the cruelty and the way he had completely dehumanized immigrants at the southern border and that was a winning message for them. and so, in a state like arizona, where there are so many mixed status families, where there are thousands of dreamers, where there are hundreds of
