it's called paradise falls. and it has nothing to do with aviation. you know as i came out of the fly girls project one thing that really bothered me. was that some of those women including louise stayed in? lived long lives into the 1970s some of them into the 1980s. and no one had found them. no writer. no author. no journalists attract them down. to talk to them about their days flying in the early moments of aviation. it was really sort of crushing actually. to see that you know, there's a columbia university in new york. there's a very large trove of oral histories. it's an incredible resource for historians academics and others and there is a very large collection of aviation oral histories there. almost none of them were with the women who flew in this time. and and so as i came out of fly girls, i thought to myself. well, what are the stories that are around us right now? you know populated by people who had once done something great and are still with us, but may not be for so much longer and and that brought me in a roundabout way to a story

and this was not long after the fall of the soviet and one of the things that happened when the soviet union collapsed is that the russia turned from a worker's paradise into a mafia controlled dystopia just because the ideal put on different hats and became mob bosses. but anyway, the russian mob took over new york city. this was new at the time. the place was run by a guy, a shadowy figure named yvonne of he was the godfather of the russian mob and the fbi was pretty sure that he existed, but they had no idea where he was. if he was in the united states or if he was back in russia, or if he was somewhere between he was on their most wanted list. they hadn't quite found him in the new york times, went and looked for him and wrote a long story, him saying, you know, nobody could find nobody was sure the figure, did he really exist? and karen was going. she covered the white house and was going to travel with the president then to russia and. and her editor suggested maybe you could do some work on the russian while you're over and russia thought well maybe start working on it here in the united and long story short i was she got on an airplane one mor

he's written two books most recent of which like most in the third schedule april title paradise fallsof the catastrophe. two assessments mentioned from offers who have spoken recently and you may remember one, if you like the bows in the boat, almost everybody did like them, he would love like girls. this gory researched and written with an irresistible a lot of characters and a similarly flowing evaluation writing this is more than history, it's a powerful story for our times, adventure, tragedy and heroes to who will air. heart stopping novel but the story is all true and conspiring. some of you may remember schedule part of the 2020 but that was canceled because of the pandemic. we look forward to having him for two years now, it is a special pleasure to welcome keith o'brien.
