why did it have difficulty escaping -- achieving velocity, so to speak? >> part of it was circumstances outside of its control. the emerging markets, china being chief among them. in other parts of the world, demand isn't as strong as it should be. that hits the exporters in germany and in other countries. it also have slowing demand in europe as well, despite improvement in wages. consumer weakness in spending and it is not enough to drive the euro zone economy forward. that should concern policy makers in brussels and monetary policy chiefs and the rest of the euro zone. markus: you touched upon it already, the european central aboutaid it is thinking more service to help the euro zone economy along. will the figures we got from the the ecb iner nudge that direction, and will it happen as soon as december when the ecb meets next? >> yes, it will push the ep -- ecb towards more to eat. we don't know what size for the target, but if you look at the week figures from spain, italy, you clearly see that there is a real incentive to get a broader stimulus program going to get those economies moving forward again. you can possibly rely on germany. the question is really, will we get something in december? we will get a commitment to enlarge it in the next meeting in january. they're talking about frontloading purchases for existing commitments because it is in liquidity. they cannot go all out in december because there isn't the volume available. nonetheless, you expect a strong cement the idea that fresh easing is on its way. we are to turn next to the airline sector. the cabin crew union is threatening further strike action unless the airline changes its tune. the warning came as flight attendants protested outside frank for airport. the strike by the coming crew has grounded as many as 4700 flights since last friday. lufthansa'sn ambitions to have a cheaper retirement scheme for employees. unions are crying foul after the dismissal of 4 air france employees. they had their shirts 20 pieces when they unveiled a series of cuts. a fifth employee is risking dismissal and 11 others have been suspended without pay in connection with the incident. the hard-line union has called the firings abusive and is calling on other air france employees to come out to protect next thursday -- protest next thursday and organize a strike at the end of the month. in the united states, we're seeing stocks close to session lows, as low oil prices are waiting on energy shares in particular. a dropvestors are seeing in retail sales, taking a gloomy picture for the american consumer. in europe earlier, mrs. fell back on the back of the week an unexpected growth figures i was telling you about. the ftse was low with oil and metal prices hitting the next. we will drill down on the lower oil prices, pardon the pun. crude oil prices are on track for the biggest weekly loss in more than two months, following fresh concerns of a supply glut in energy markets. the international energy agency says global crude stockpiles are at record levels near 3 billion barrels. demand for oil won't grow as quickly in 2016 as it has in recent years. volkswagen is feeling the pinch of the admissions scandal. the german car brand says october sales fell by 5.3% this year on the same month in 2014. vw attributes part of the fall to temporary sales ban on diesel cars in western europe. october was the first full month of training after vw's admission in september that it had been cheating on a mission tests. at global leaders will be gathering in turkey to talk about the state of the global economy this weekend. the discussions may be overshadowed right the division over the war in syria. it is also seen as a chance for leaders to get onto the same page on climate issues ahead of a u.n. summit in paris. to awe're going to turn spice that is worth its weight in gold. iran is the world's biggest producer of saffron, but the industry in the islamic republic has been way down by sanctions in recent years. western powers are preparing to ease those sanctions. iranian saffron makers are hoping for a boost. reporter: it has been called iran's red gold. early in the morning, dozens of women come to harvest these flowers, known as the saffron croaker's. cçç 11/13/15 11/13/15 [captioning made possible by democracy now!] amy: from pacifica, this is democracy now! i was standing and suddenly saw an explosion, then i could not feel an glass was falling on me. but what exploded, i don't know. afterwards, another explosion happened. amy: the islamic state has claimed responsibility for a double suicide attack in lebanon that killed 43 people. we will speak with rami khouri and with journalist nick turse on your special operations from syria to africa. his new
