a park. they wanted to get people to understand that park commissioners want people to understand the possibilities of a park system. this is what they had money to do. olmsted, you see, made a park plan for a road. and, he could not help himself. they made all sorts of notes about what the eventual parks should look like as far as view corridors and different types of landscape. but, he only designed along the roadway. i will point out one really interesting element of this, the vast majority of this section, is one that is very naturalistic, pastoral, the lines are organic. in this area, this is the south end of the park. this whole area outside of the park is residential. you will notice that the trees are parked in a line. along that road. a much more formal and less naturalistic design. but, as you get into the park, it evolves into a more naturalistic design. today you can see this. this is in 1934 and then in 2008. those are the centuries and they have grown nicely into that space. it
