francisco voters who approved the 2008 clean and safe neighborhood parks bond, our elected officials, our chinatown community leaders, residents, city staff, and everyone who has a deep connection and history here at the chinese rec center. we like to say at the recreation and park department that we cannot do it alone. so we want to thank everyone who has had a hand in building this incredible facility. the park said the village has been cleaned. >> the city of menlo park could cash in from facebook.hey say that it's working on a development agreement with facebook for the company's new 22-acre west campus. in a similar agreement menlo park made more than $14.5 million in fees and public benefits when facebook built it's east campus. at proval process will take about 30 weeks to complete. >>> the city of emoryville is making way for a new develop member and some are upset that part of the plan includes ripping up old trees. new, sal is live where it's a battle of what you may call the old verses the new. >> reporter: are that is right. these trees here, more than two dozen are on the city property, bordering the problem, what may surprise you, this is a site of a new city park. the developer must build a small city park where this parking lot sits but the developer wants to remove all the trees you see here and plant new ones. >> wait a minute. you will chop down 20-year-old trees in a park and then put in new ones just a couple feet away? >> reporter: the city isn't following it'

like many other cities, we are congested in our parking. parking is really a challenge in the city. for people who own vehicles, and introducing people to car- sharing programs and ideas have been a wonderful experiment for us. as you know, we have been working to create not only public garages but also in congested neighborhoods. when a private company like bmw registers their interest in car- sharing, that is a complement to the direction we are heading to be morris -- more sustainable. i want to think bmw for being here. we are in negotiations to get us into our fleet so we can utilize. unless we do it with the latest technology, people will not appreciate the mayor driving a bmw. [laughter] but we are doing it for the right reasons. i want to showcase that as we lead this country into a thought process, a challenge that our major cities, our urban settings can have solutions to our parking problems, have sustainable mobility as part of our alternatives in the vehicles and car-sharing as a principle for us to join our automobile makers as well as our vehicle owners and rentals as

the biggest supporter of parks and brachiate -- recreation and open space in this city. he understands the importance to our neighborhoods and communities of having clean and safe places to play. he has been an advocate for parks, open space, and recreation, even as director of the department of public works and as city administrator. the thing i love most about him is his youthful spirit and competitive fire. this is the guy who is not just our mayor, but he is a ping-pong player. he loves to shoot hoops. he loves baseball. he is a big sports fan. he loves our kids. the thing i tried to model after him the most is the ability to play and to bring joy to the job. ladies and gentlemen, our mayor, edwin lee. , at city buildings for water and power -- rec and park department, city buildings for water i do not think it is a fair subsidy for these other departments. they generate revenue, they know they will be getting a really good deal. if they had to go outside for power, it would cost them quite a bit more. we need to put the money up so that we are not asked for more bonding. i do not think the future generation is going to be able to afford these rate increases. four time rate increase for a small household? that is an incredibly large amount. i would love to see those figures, thank you. president moran: thank you. >> we have been working for the last several months to try to get the pacific rock and gun club under a new lease. and we send an eviction notice with eviction effective august 15. the last draft least, they came back recently and said we will agree to all these terms. we said we would extend the period and by which we would evaluate those until september fed. one of the questions is, they have 4 acres, but they have occupy 14 acres. we think it is prudent to lease

these are found at city parking garages, at the airport, treasure island, and by the end of 2012, the city will add another 30-40 charges. of note, the public uses the stations, the cost will be free up until the end of 2013 and all of the stations are powered with power that is greenhouse-gas free. adding to the infrastructure, many charging stations are also being implemented on private property. so in retail stores, and other parking lot, there are an additional 44 stations at 22 locations. the department of the environment is making it easier for san francisco to charge their cars at home. are in apartment buildings or condominiums and we have a program that is called multi charge san francisco. it is a demonstration program where we are implementing 100 charging stations in these types of buildings to make sure that renters can also have access to easy charging. in closing, i wanted to thank bmw for recognizing the need to innovate in the area of urban transportation and developing new solutions that all of us can utilize now in in the future. i wanted to mention that according t

the free ride could soon be over for drivers parking in palo alto. the city is looking at ways to open up parking spaces downtown. that could mean an end to the free curbside parking. >> it parking meters are a fact of life inarea cities but palo alto is one very prominent exception. this is a thriving downtown and parking is absolutely free. there is a two hour limit but you can get a lot done in two hours. now there is a proposal to install parking meters in the downtown area for the first time since the 1970's. local merchants say that free parking is a big part of the success and they are about to give city leaders an earful. >> to take away free parking will kill business. nobody will come down here, they will go to other cities where there are free parking >> no doubt that free parking is a big attraction. university avenue is often jammed with too many cars and some say the free parking only encourages people to use their cars more. all lot of cities have these proposals to try to reduce exhaust emissions, this is alto idea. >> a lot of people are goin

any plans in terms of who will be constructing, maintaining, operating the parks over time as well as their completion. the cityark is -- will be owned and operated in the future by the tgpa. it will be a privately owned open space and it is the front door of the transit center on mission street. so they will maintain an easement over that property to ensure permanent public access forever. the plaza is designed by peter walker partners and will be approved by the planning commission when the tower is approved, hopefully in the fall. it will hopefully be complete when the transit center opened in 2017. moving around the transit center, a small alley that is a very important part of the pedestrian network. it will be more important in the future and will be closed to automobiles and be turned into a pedestrian plaza. has yet to be designed. it will be designed and built either by the city or an adjacent private developer who owns the parcel depending on the timing over the next couple of years. this is a public city right of way that will be closed to automobiles and turned into a very active public plaza. will
