the kind of people who enjoy and support parks in your city are really already predisposed to support a smaller park in a community if they are given the chance to be introduced to it. whether it is the fact they don't have adequate bathdrooms or the maintenance isn't kept up, i think getting back to more optimistic message, there are people that have a heart for it and willing to help in a sense that is broader than the big park, but you is to show it to them. there is nothing like taking them there in person and meet the kids and people using it. they tend to call back a month later and say i want to help >> mayor murray >> thank you again for having me here today. i would close by saying that some of the things we are about to do in seattle with public and private partnership have very important and they can add value. look at new york, we know how good those relationships can be, but when it come tooz keeping programs going and maintaining the parks so they can operate, not having a dedicated sfedy source of income from the public sector means when times get bad and times will get

city. it is also critical to our young people. today san francisco boasts over 220 parks. we have 180 playgrounds. 6 golf courses. i played all 6 of them 3 times. 38 community gardens and growing. i think not unlike all the other cities, our urban parks and urban gardens are growing at a rapid pace. people want to be able to grow their own food and flowers and we have a lot of philanthopy that identifies that as the next great space if you will for investment. i don't know if you knew this, we are only 49 square miles, 15 percent of our city is open space. they of course reflect such iconic names as golden gate park, chrisy field and if tonight you visit quoit tower it will be laden in orange for a good reason. 98 percent of our city lives within a 10 minute walk of a park. 98 percent. we are going to get to 100 percent. mark, we are get toog 100 percent and commit to that in a very short space. we have over 370 million dollars in parks bond to spend just this year we'll spend 15 and a half million dollars to go toward rehabilitation and refreshing 6 play grounds in san fra

i worked mostly in the mountain areas around park city utah, and there's a large portion of the countiesthat i covered that had very little public safety radio coverage. some of that was in the pre-cellular days as well so is very little cellular coverage in utah. but we would go up canyons often where you could go 10 or 20 miles where you didn't have coverage, and there were times you needed backup, and you couldn't talk to anybody, and you had to handle it yourself. really there's an interesting conundrum. when i worked for life flight in salt lake city, we flew to and landed in remote areas where communications by terrestrial networks was difficult and the radio networks didn't necessarily get out to everywhere we needed to. there's definitely a need in western parts of the united states that are very rural to have, you know, additional coverage and to look at innovative ways to solve that problem as we go forward. i think we're seeing an industry today and in the marketplace that there are other ways people are looking at covering the more remote parts of the world for that matter, a
