they're mourning the small mountain comunity in park county is hurting this morning... they're mourning county is hurting this morning... they're mourning the loss of a man who wasn't just a deputy... he was a coach... and a friend. corporal nate carrigan was among three deputies shot while serving an eviction notice at a home near bailey. corporal carrigan died... his two partners survived. 9news reporter noel brennan is in park county this morning.. noel - it seems as though deputies knew... the homeowner was a potential threat. about 9:48 yesterday morning, martin wirth. police say wirth came out onto the deck and then went back inside. officers followed wirth into the home and that's when he started shooting. corporal nate carrigan was shot and died at the scene. master patrol deputy kolby martin was hit multiple times and is in critical condition. a bullet grazed the ear of captain mark hancock. he was treated and released from the hospital. yesterday, authorities asked the public to keep victims in their thoughts. last night, the community of bailey gathered at par

-- dispute over the park county home. >> there's no other evidentiary requirement. >>reporter: in this video posted to youtube, wishth admitted not making payments to the mortgage company, saying they were a bunch of crooks. >> i did not pay mortgage to the bunch of crooks. >>reporter: park county records show he lost his property to his mortgage company in 2014. after failing to pay, more than $116,000, he owed on the iris drive home. in 2013, wirth filed this federal complaint against governor john hickenlooper, asking that the state foreclosure laws be repealed and the government officials be criminally charged for depriving him of his civil rights. a federal magistrate later threw the wirth case out of court. in 2014, wirth ran for state senate, facebook posting he called himself a high value target. and railed on police. calling them a brutal impediment to human progress. because i write such things, said wirth, cops want me dead. last month, things seemed to come to a head. park county arrested wirth january 20th for driving under restraint eluding the police.

the other person, a park county deputy. two other officers injured in this but their injuries considered nonlife threatening. we were told this happened in some type of a shootout and we were told by a witness as well, this is unconfirmed, though, that she did hear shots coming from her neighbor's home but again that is not confirmed. an officer said that the shooting happened earlier this morning. those details are unclear as well. but we are awaiting public information officer to come speak with the media. we do know that platt canyon high school and fitzsimmons middle school are currently on multiple agencies responding here. north just a couple miles north of where i am is approximately where the shooting happened but you can see they are remaining tight lipped right now until an officer can come on scene and talk to the media but, again, we are still gathering details. two schools on lockdown right now, platt canyon -- excuse me. lockout. platt canyon high school as well as fitzsimmons middle school. we do have those t
