also following the market, i walked down columbus and there is a parklet. i don't know how the enforcement works, but it is obvious that that park is just an extension of the restaurant. they're serving people, taking orders, what ever. i don't think that was the intent and i don't want them to turn into a mere extension of private enterprise within the public realm. if that is going to continue to happen, we should start charging them rent. that is all i have at the moment. commissioner miguel: that is happening all over the city. it is very obvious. it is my understanding they are not allowed to take orders, not allowed to actually bring food to the table. it is happening all over the city. the academy of art is occupying 625, a historic building, i believe, a landmark. and i am not saying they shouldn't have, for public safety, but they have put safety lights on the exterior all around that building. and putting changes to the exterior of the historic building, i presume, takes quite a bit of procedure. i question whether it has been followed in this cas

it was a bit of the struggle with the department to get our hands around these parklets. they have been very successful. without transit, we cannot do any of these things if the city does not work with our transit. muni carries more than all the other systems combined. in certain corridors, which carry more than at most distance in the bay area. we have lot of operators. part of the regional transportation agencies have push is to figure out ways to make transit work more effectively. the mta is working on the transit effectiveness project right now, figuring out how to get to those low-hanging fruit opportunities, but also doing a structural modifications to the system the will help us meet a lot of continuing questions of capacity and crowd in. peak capacity is absolutely critical for us to have any of these growth projections work. right now, we are at capacity. if we need to grow, we are asking for the regional government to help through this sustainable community strategy process. regional core capacity means san francisco transit capacity. it is not a san francisco

we put in a parklet on divisadero that didn't -- that removed two parking spaces. we day and evening activity, by 37%. on in valencia street, where we have put in a number of new bike lanes, 65% of the merchants have said they had a positive impact on their business. we do expect that there will be an increase in activity in the park as a result of the bike lanes. i have been working closely with the mta, rec and park, on the plans for the jfk protected bike lane. we have looked at the concerns about parking removal. the mayor shares those concerns, so the asked the mta to do everything they could to minimize the parking losses. we feel very comfortable, though it is not desirable to lose those 55 spaces would tend near the institutions, we feel that the pros outweighed the cons on the parking site in terms of increasing activity to the institutions and the park. the mayor shares the concerns about possible impact on pedestrians and disabled park users. the mayor's office on disability has been working with the mta on the project generally. but as susan mentioned,
