you see india basin shoreline park which is an existing park. of that is because of its design, as opposed to our efforts to maintain. his disconnected from the community his that use it. there is a big wide road that borders it. we have pg and the transmission materials there. it is underwhelming and it does lend itself to send that behaviour. india basin open space is similar to 900 and switches a property that this commission voted to acquire in 2014 and it is not yet a park. it is an industrial shipyard. these are some of its existing conditions. some more about existing conditions in the openings -- open spaces. let me focus here a little bit. the quadrants, the lower left quadrant are our park maintenance scores. what you see are citywide averages. our bayview district ten scores which are around 87, 88%, and that bottom line is india basin shoreline park. it needs attention. this park is part of some significant concerted investment in district ten in not just for this presentation, but in our work, we are looking at what will be district

comes to parks.there is of course, other things like schools and shopping that we think about as well, we definitely promote sustainable transportation and active transportation, walking and cycling, not just recreation, but getting around the city in most neighborhoods, the vast majority of the public space is in the street is not parks, and so we want neighborhoods that are more level, more green, more healthy, more equitable, more playable, more sociable, you have to think about parks, obviously, but you also have to think about the streets, transforming them, making our streets more like our parks. so in this city, streets and parks are indifferent different bureaucratic silos. it is relatively coherent. you have a lot of players in the streets, different agencies, it is not that way in other cities. copenhagen -- copenhagen is another city we really admire. we really have understood these are two species and varieties of public space in the committee, but it is two different agencies to make our

so rec and park operates different programs at heron's park. one is the youth stewardship program. under the youth stewardship program they hire amenicorp young adults usually recent college graduates who work for an annual stipend and work for a year in service to the community capacity. the young stewardship interns work with local schools and other organizations to provide education about the ecology and environment at heron's head park. the functions and ecological values of wetlands and the affiliated native plant landscaping. so that's been going on for almost 10 years. they work mostly with k-12 schools and all other kinds of groups that want to come out to heron's head park to learn with the environment. and rec and park also in 2012 initiated the green acres program which is a program for young teenagers, ninth through tenth graders interested in the environment. the program was structured to be an opportunity for youth from the southeast to serve the community in their own backyard. so they must live gore -- go to school in district 10 and spent time at heron's head park
