hopefully -- so jackson park was my childhood park.on't remember the memories particularly, but i went to toddler class in our community center. and in the '90s when i was still in the bay area, i would visit the park and notice the renovations that were done in the '90s and then went to college and came back to pretrero hill to live on my own and noted that wasn't any more renovations done to jackson park. so it is now 2019, this year has gone by quick, but it's about time to start bringing in new life to this park. as someone's who's grown up in san francisco and thinking about having a family here and supporting things, i have joined friends of jackson park to help show my support for the park and grow support and hopefully persuade you to please think about jackson park as a place that needs to be a priority project on the next parks bond. so i thank you for your consideration. maybe next time i will be a little bit more clear. thank you so much. >> president buell: thank you. >> clerk: is there any other public comments? seeing no

other civil war parks do as well. other state parks host ccc camps. it's not uncommon. but what i found interesting, and what does make gettysburg's ccc camps in the 1930's unique , is who is working there. and those of you up front, if you take a good look at the picture and the individuals in it, what do you notice about the ccc workers? african-american. now, that in itself is not unique particularly. shiloh national military park hosts an african-american ccc camp in tennessee, in the 1930's. gettysburg is different. the enrollees are african-american, but roosevelt is going to sign off in making gettysburg a test case that not only are the enrollees african-american, but so is the supervisor. so instead of being under the control of a white supervisor, much like the usct organization, gettysburg is going to see a black superintendent. his name is frederick slade, and he arrives here in 1936. until 1942, hundreds of african-americans toil on the gettysburg battlefield, doing stuff like this. you all probably use this particular facility before, i bet, right? i know

imagine being one of the park commissioners. the park commissioners are veterans. they fought at gettysburg. and they're looking across the landscape now in 1917 and 1918 and they see world war i tanks roaming across the fields of picket's charge. you could just imagine them pulling their hiair out. and because camp commanders here at camp colt need some luxurious accommodations in the fields of picket's charge right in front of the angle, right where armstead and the confederates crossed in 1863. you know what the war department builds for these camp colt officers? they build a swimming pool. if you could imagine looking across the fields to picket's charge right in front of the stonewall imagine a massive concrete swimming pool. the war department, read through the park commission reports, they are furious about this swimming pool and when the war is over they keep writing, are you guys going to fill this in, are you going to take care of this swimming pool? here's an example of how the war department views gettysburg as a utilitarian landscape. chickamauga and c

national park service commemorated its centennial , the national park service has been in existence since 1916 but they have not managed to historic sites . >> now, the park service comes in and manages historic sites including gettysburg and they get control of over 2000 acres of gettysburg at this time. unlike today, the national park service does not have a uniform management philosophy, so much of our parkway gettysburg was managed, depended on the local superintendent. the man on the left is the first national park service superintendent, his name is james mcconaughey. james mcconaughey is a harvard graduate, he has a degree in landscape architecture, so, when mcconaughey comes to gettysburg, his management philosophy is to manage the park , preserve the battlefield as a beautiful landscape, so if you could read through the gettysburg time newspaper in the 1930s, the park is encouraging visitors to come to gettysburg to look at flowers come visit devils den and look at the beautiful spring foliage. come visit little round top and look at the beautiful fall foliage. mcconaughey

we always gripe about parking. i can't get a good place to park by the visitor center. see, it's the same. it's the same. gettysburg is going to see over two million people, two million people com to celebrate, reenact 789, but it's also an occasion where governors and dignitaries can talk about the kimp air civil rights movement. so here, the governor of new jersey, who's laying a wreath at one of the new jersey monuments on cemetery ridge, ses this occasion, his oration, to talk about the unfulfilled promises of the american civil war. in 1963, he's telling, reminding listeners that the civil war was not fought to presembt union white or jim crow, but it was fought for liberty and justice for all, lay a wreath and zpwf like deliver an oration is george wallace. george wallace comes to gettysburg in early july, and he will lay a wreath at the alabama memorial, and he also gives a short speech at the then, then it explodes. so i want to go through the last bit of time that and i have talk to you quickly about the latter years of the 20th century, into the 21st century.

national park. our proximity to yellowstone is a pretty important part of what we interpret here. we are 60 miles north of yellowstone national park. we have a pretty good collection of cultural artifacts related to that area. touring bus a 1937 that drove the streets and roads of yellowstone park for decades. we try to document the cultural history of all of the northern rockies. idaho, part of wyoming, all of montana and up into alberta and british columbia. we will look at the life of john bozeman. he is the namesake of our town, where museum of the rockies is located. we will look at the very few artifacts directly related to him. there is no other place in the world that contains these items. john bozeman was a fascinating character. he came out to what was then 2.aho territory in 186 he came out as a gold miner. he left his family behind in georgia. he was a georgian by birth. interestingly his father had done the same thing during the california gold rush, had abandoned his family, gone to ca

so i'm -- bay view -- here is bay view park. i'm going to just take you through the visuals of the park. so as you can see, here is an existing aerial of bay view park. it is a 4.4-acre park in bay view district 10, and it is surrounded by -- on 3rd street -- it's not coming out there. so on the west side on 3rd street, on the east side is keith street and on the south side is carol street. it's known by a few names because of the amenities that are there, the martin luther king park is there and also the bay view playground in the center. you've seen this project a few times because in 2013 you awarded $300,000 to the bay view hill zone and park 94124 to renovate and possibly expand the playground which is in the center of the property. the plan that you see on the right happens to be the plan that you approved at that time. since then, some changes have happened. we also came back in 2017 to accept a grant award from a federal grant that was administered through the state of california for $375,000 in order to add to this plan

a lot of natural parks -- national parks have hidden dangers. you know like the grand canyon you can fall into the big call. yellowstone has that tool in its -- two in its canyon. - too, in its canyon. a lot of parks you can drown. or take a fall over a precipice. it also has the strange deaths like being boiled in a hot spring, or being eaten by a grizzly bear or gord in bison. by a bison. all of those have happened to people. >> yellowstone predates the park itself. can you talk about the relationship between bozeman and the park. bozeman was an agricultural community. rather than so many of montana's communities which were mining. near it, to the west, was virginia city. so montana's history is bound up in mining. those miners who jumped across earlier,o and california, in 1850's, jumped across into montana and those miners spread out looking for the gulch is as they called them. so they looked in yellowstone, but they did not really make a gold strike. that was fortunate for yellowstone. it probably saved the national park, the fact that the

next is the bluxome linear park. this was developed in deep coordination with the city family, including dpw, mta, and the puc. so all elements of this plan have been fully vetted by the city family. at this.because, there are a number of different programs within the space, that i will walk you through. there is space that is recreation based. there is space that is more relaxation based. it also includes a dog run which is deeply needed in this part of town. as to the affordable housing. as my partner related to, this is a dedication of an airspace parcel. fully coordinated with the mayor's office of housing. it will be 100% affordable. there is 107 units programmed here. over 40% of the units are 2-3 bedrooms designed to fit both family and intergenerational housing. here you can see unit plans that have been developed in consort with the mayor's office of housing. this is really a thoughtful program that can be realized as soon as the mayor's office is ready. >> and going to turn it over to lisa to walk you throu
