recreation and parks pipeline projects - an informational presentation from recreation and parks department staff regarding pipeline projects >> just briefly i wanted to introduce sarah ballard she is here to present you the pipeline project which you asked for a couple of weeks ago to talk about the upcoming departments at the department. >> thank you. good afternoon. president and commissioners, sarah ballard and i am going to briefly take you through the projects that we have planned and the capitol projects that we have planned, and primarily under the 2012 bond xh was passed in november with 72 percent of the vote we are proud to report. as you are likely aware, the recreation and park's department is part of the ten year capitol plan, where all of the structural departments come together to slate their bond issuances so that the burden of the taxpayer does not vary. and so we participate in that planning process and are slated somewhere about every tief years to go out and ask the voters to approve a general obligation bond which is the primary mode we used to fund all of our capitol projec

our recreation park department staff that made this happen today. (applause) >> these are the unsung heroes that don't get recognized very often, but they are what make our parks work and look the way they do and we are so lucky we have one of the most beautiful parks now right in the middle of pacific heights. but there are two people -- i want to thank a few folks. stefan franz as well, and our friends from prozac that represent our parks department and represent all that we believe in in our neighborhood. thank you for all that you do. and i really in particular today want to single out two folks. phil mentioned the friends of lafayette park and we have certificates of honor for them. but this playground behind us would not have happened without one of the best friends of parks groups in our city of san francisco, and that's the friends of lafayette park. they raised hundreds of thousands of dollars. the plaques are around here and all the people that contributed to it, but there are two people that had the biggest leadership in this, and i want t

a couple of mondays ago at that time the land use heard a report on the land use parks department and the municipal staff gave an overview and the stakeholders including the designers all talked about their experience in the program. moving a project through the design and implementation was so stipulated in the x accelerator and the board committee members talked about the equity and distribution. supervisor mary recognize the success of the park and is excited about the upcoming installation. and supervisor mar want to have the resources augmented in the city program. this week the land use committee was to hear supervisor avalos amendment but he continued the hearing to comply with this commission interests and he pulled out the demolition controls so this hearing is calendar on the non conforming uses for september 19th. so as anticipated avalos will move forward after the board break. on tuesday the board heard an appeal - actually, two appeals are for the wisely facility. both the commissions come be used authorization and the departments sequa determination were appealed. the commission had approv

department [speaker not understood]. since karma has a personal connection with golden gate park and the particular area known as kifa triangle, department staff decided to move forward working with sam and carla on the landscape improvement project. carla has been involved in many bay area art projects and institutions and sam is the executive director of green museum.org. so, together they funded the friends of kifa triangle with the intent of creating a more inviting and beautiful entry to golden gate park at kiva triangle. carla and sam reached out to the parks alliance for the fiscal sponsorship and support and they have volunteered in golden gate park the support of the cost of new trees and they've hosted numerous public events and picnics. the friends engaged company mayer landscape architects to work with the community and with the recreation and park department. jeff miller and carla have been committed partners on this project. the planning process for landscape improvements and temporary art installations at kiva triangle wrapped up in may with the third and final community meeting held jointly by rec/park jeff miller of parks alli

big conservation development commission, the port commission, our port staff, public works, all our departments behind me, rec and parkderal partners have certainly been extremely important. thank you to everyone for getting to this point. and thank you for the contractors as well, because this has been one of the most visible projects where people along the waterfront have traversed this project for quite sometime and did not experience any public safety challenges along the way. so, i want to thank them for that high level of safety. 840 feet alongside our embarcadaro promenade, really blessed to have two beautiful acres of open space to welcome more people to enjoy our waterfront. that is what our city does, especially in these times along our waterfront. you've seen all the things that we've done literally in the past year. brannon street wharf today. last june we had the privilege of opening up just up north jefferson street promenade. february earlier this year, we did the james cruise ship terminal, the cruise ship terminal at pier 27. of course, last november we all did a lot of great celebration just a little
