again, almost 860,000 people on the parkway.course, looking at video there was heavy security today and lot of people had to go flew magnetometers to get to this particular papal mass. in fact chris o'connell spoke to some people who said, you know, even though they had to wait long time, it was worth it. chris. >> reporter: yeah, iain, with and estimated 860,000 people coming to town, possibly more, mayor nutter just told us, there are bound to be some hiccups. yes, among the prayers of all the joy, there was a little frustration. they came from every continent, from all corners of the world. getting inside the papal mass on the parkway may have been the hardest trip of them all. some waiting in security lines for up to four hours to get inside. >> everybody move over. single file against the fence. >> reporter: many of them never made it. they never saw the pope. >> took us three hours to move block and a half and then they said they weren't letting anybody else on the parkway. i missed the whole thing. i missed everything. >>

there's structures over the parkway. jumbotrons around the parkway, as well. tent for official merchandise. you can see a police vehicle positioned here, as well. as far as traffic around here, every once in a while we'll see a car come through that is not an official vehicle and i just caution you when you come by here, there's work being done if the area and crews on the streets and a lot of work left to do. mainly fork lifts on the parkway at this time. crews started their breakdown almost immediately. all that seating that needed to be packed away from the papal malice, thousands of chairs set up for the people with tickets. that had to be broken down. many thousand more stood along the parkway. there had to be trash cleanup for all the mess that the crowds left behind. while work is being done, some of the roads are opened back up. penndot opened 76. the vine street expressway is opened, but some of the ramps are closed. in center city, crews are taking down all the barriers from the weekend. as that happens we'll see more and more roads open up. the sani

i think people on the parkway are starting to feel that.r we're seeing hustle and bustle, people are coming over to see what's going on on the parkway. but in order to get where we are at 19th and the parkway you have to go through security. that's the closest access point where we are, that's the security checkpoint at 19th and wood. people are coming through right now. not all the checkpoints were open overnight. 15th and cherry was closed. now we're seeing wider access. tsa, homeland security, k-9 units you're seeing agents at the check points. as far as how people are feeling about things, some people are feeling are frustrated about how strict the access is, but on the other end of the spectrum they think it is worth it making sure the pope is safe and everybody is safe. i did speak with some people this morning they walked an hour to get here this morning, they've here for hours, they want to make sure they have a good spot for today's festivities, the festival of families later. they want to make sure they see the pope in person. the

let's go now to harry hairston down at the parkway.of the sentence of security measures and long lines security is creating for us. >> reporter: you said it. long lines through security. very, very long lines. i want to give you a feel of what it's looking like on the parkway as people start to swell into the parkway as our camera pushes in and shows you how thousands of people have already gotten here. now that you've taken a look at that, take a look at this. this is video from 18th and cherry. back up, a massive backup to try to get in. i talked to one woman who came through there just moments ago. she told me it took her 2 1/2 hours to get through that security line. she was only a block away from that. and now i've gone out and checked the area, that line is backed up about three to four blocks. so many of the checkpoints are just massive backups at this point. if you are coming down here, get down here early because it will be a very long wait. we've also gotten information from the joint information center, the security checkpoi

only closures off of the vine are ramps to the ben franklin parkway. ram tops broad street and eighth street are open. there should not be a problem at all, going where you need to get to today. live lot at ben franklin bridge, opened for vehicle traffic this morning. all of the closures in south jersey are gone, septa regional rail lines are running on a week even schedule this morning. you may find some buses around independent hall and parkway area are on a local detour around the the clean up, patco running on a special schedule, new jersey transit and trains are running on a normal schedule and if you are heading down toward the airport, sue give yourself some extra time. they said three hour estimate to get through the security for international flights and a lot of folks were stuck here for an extra night because they basically, halted all air traffic while the papal plane was taking off last night. >> so combine that with the folks who were going to leave to take anyway, yikes, it can be crowded. i put out a call earlier asking for folks who to
