let's bring in nbc's cristian caceres, who joins us in pasadena. cristian, the money is there in most cases, but the challenge is getting that money quickly. that's right roger. but let me tell you, this center here that we're at, this really is a one stop shop to help get that relief back to the hands of so many families that are in need. fema normally sets up these recovery centers when a disaster happens. and this is the case here at the pasadena city college, as you can see here behind me, families are still trickling in as the evening hours are moving in. they're trying to get as much information as possible to get back on their feet. and i have to tell you, the resource center here, it is a great tool for these families because they have not just local but state agencies here offering so much help. we're talking about assistance for housing, for food, for gas, for their vehicles. now, this is great help for people with and without insurance. but fema says filing a claim with the insurance company will help move this process fast. can get a li

a donation center right now is operating outside the rose bowl in pasadena. it is staffed largely by volunteers working around the clock looking to help where they can. the site is stocked with donated food, water, clothing and just basic necessities. and tonight, people in the bay area are buying supplies, trying to do what they can to assist the la fire victims. nbc bay area's jocelyn moran joins us now with how you can help. jocelyn. yeah. janelle. businesses, churches and organizations are gathering supplies to send to la. others are connecting on social media, getting together to figure out how to contribute. tonight, a truckload of supplies from san jose is on its way to los angeles. we have relief worth of full semi truck that is going to the dream center in la to help with folks out there. people have been dropping off things like diapers and water the last couple of days, and volunteers today with westgate church packed all of those donations up. 100% of this effort is done by volunteers who care for la. we love la. others are posting on social media

there's a synagogue in pasadena.t kind of assistance is most needed in your communities right now? >> well, i have to tell you, i've been also visiting the donation distribution sites, and they have just popped up everywhere. and people have been so generous by donating goods. water is a particular issue because there is a drinking alert that is in pasadena and altadena. people are told not to drink out of the tap because of possible contamination. so water bottles are going up. but actually so many people just ran out of their house with nothing, just with the clothes on their back. so they have absolutely nothing. so toiletries, clothes, food, all of those items are very, very necessary for people to survive in these days. >> now, as we've been saying, the devastation from the l.a. fires has been indiscriminate, hitting some of the city's wealthiest areas and some of its most diverse. take a listen to what some residents have to say. >> it's all gone. all gone. i mean, the kids were born here, raised them here 20 s

right now three major fires are still burning in the pacific palisades the pasadena.what i know from talking to the governor that there are concerns out there that there has also been a water shortage. the fact is utilities understandably shut off power because they are worried that the lines and they carry energy will be blown out and spark additional fires. cal fire when they did that it cut off really their ability to generate pumping water. that is the cause of the lack of water. and do so cal fire is bringing in generators to get these pumps up and working again so that there is no longer shortage of water coming out of these hydrants. i'm also searching all federal resources possible to southern california including 400 additional firefighters, over 30 firefighting helicopters and planes. firefighting plane and helicopters. and date department of defense c-130s that are equipped to suppress firefighters -- wildfires. also 500 wildfire ground clearing personnel from the defense department. i have directed the department to continue working with governors to ident
