our pat collins is outside the wilson building with more on this story now. pat?> reporter: jim, the medical director has quit, and she's not doing quietly. she has a lot of stories to tell. listen to this one about robert wiggins. january 27, 35-year-old robert wiggins was stabbed in the chest in an apartment on 37th street southeast. dr. jullette saussy, the fire said he had a potentially survivable injury, but it took more than 18 minutes for an ambulance to reach him. we failed that young man, the doctor wrote. mr. wiggin was eventually taken to a hospital, but he died four days later. this is a case cited by dr. saussy in a fiery resignation letter penned to mayor muriel bowser. dr. saussy was hired by the mayor seven months ago to fix our city's troubled ambulance service. she wrote that people were dying needlessly because we're moving too slowly to improve the way we handle emergency calls. she complained she's not been able to do her job. >> i was very hopeful that the walk and the talk would match, and that's not been my experience. >> reporter: in the c

news4's pat collins joins us live in warrenton, with details on this case. pat? >> jim, this is how police tell it -- he's 43. she's 16. he's a basketball coach. she's a basketball player. and now he's facing some felony sex charges. this is the prestigious highland school in warrenton, virginia. it goes from pre-k to grades 12. the student/teacher ratio, about 11-1. the cost of a year of high school, about $27,000. for two years, george logan has been a part-time employee of the school. hired t basketball team. tonight coach logan has been charged with having an inappropriate relationship with one of the students here. a 16-year-old teenaged girl. it was the school that brought the case to the police. and it was yesterday that the prince william police raided logan's home in manassas. >> i thought we lived in a pretty good neighborhood. >> that's a neighbor who saw the cops raid the place. >> there are a lot of cops here. they told me to get back in my car there were people yelling inside. basically our whole area was filled with cop cars. >> at his home police

pat collins is on this story and it involves a cell phone theft. pat, what are you learning in penn quarter? >> reporter: well, let me tell you, jim. police say when thieves see an iphone, their eyes just light up. in fact, on the street they even have a name for it. they call it apple picking. now, hear now the story of a woman who traveled 8,000 miles to come here to visit friends only to get apple picked here in penn quarter. this is lauren. she's an education consultant. she's from here but she lives and works in hong kong. lauren has traveled all around the world. she considers herself to be street smart. >> everywhere i go in the world, you know, i've got my purse on me, i'm looking around, and then, of course, i come home and this happens. >> reporter: it was tuesday night. it was about 8:00. lauren gets off the metro near the verizon center. she's on her way to penn quarter to meet some friends. she's looking at a map on her cell phone to find her way. as she gets to the intersection of 7th and e, that's when it happens. that's when she's ri

news4's pat collins caught up with the mayor and joins us now with her reaction to that director's damning resignation letter. pat? >> reporter: jim, people are dying needlessly because our city has been too slow to fix the ambulance problem here. strong parting words from the medical director. it's an explosive letter written by dr. juliette saussy, the doctor hired by mayor bowser to fix the city's troubled ambulance service. she says the culture of the d.c. fire department and emergency medical service is highly toxic. she says there's no indication that anyone can attest to the competency of theed serve our city. she says she's never met most of them. she says people are dying needlessly because we're moving too slowly to fix the ambulance system. last night dr. saussy sat down with our jackie bensen. >> i was hired under the premise of reforming a system that for many, many years as you spoke of has been plagued with difficulties that have resulted in loss of life, and i was very hopeful that the walk and the talk would watch, and that's not been my experience. >> reporter: dr. saussy

pat collins is live in northeast d.c. with details for us. pat? >> reporter: jim, it's happened again. another police-involved shooting in the clay terrace neighborhood. that makes four in less than a year. today's police involved shooting near the intersection of 53rd and clay streets northeast. it had deadly consequences. this is how police tell the story. it was around 2:00 a.m. an officer saw a man acting in a suspicious manner. as he approached the man, the man began to run. the man slipped on the pavement, and as he did, a gun popped out of his clothing. the officer told the man not to reach for the gun, but as the man reached for the gun, the officer opened fire and struck the man in the neck. the man's gun turned out to be a bb gun, but they say it looked like the real thing. hear now from the chief. >> from what i understand this morning, it has been determined to be a replica of a semiautomatic handgun but is a replica bb gun. >> reporter: the police officer involved has been on the force less than two years. the officer is white. the de

news4's pat collins is live at the scene on greenbelt road in lanham. what have you haelearned about this? >> reporter: wait until you hear a description of one of the suspects in the case. it's something i have never heard before. first, let's talk about the shooting itself. we begin with some words from a merchant who has a store here. >> i heard one gunshot. at first i thought it was a tire pop, and then about five or six seconds later i heard a second one. then i knew something was wrong. >> reporter: it happened around 8:40. police say a 17-year-old was walking on the sidewalk on greenbelt road. he was approached by two young men. shots were fired, and the 17-year-old ends up staggering to the middle of the street. they say he has life-threatening injuries. now this happened nearby duvall high school. duvall high school and a number of other schools were on lockdown for about an hour while police investigated the shooting. police sources say there is no known connection between the victim and duval high school. sources say the shooting came as a re
