let's get to pat collins live on the scene. pat, what have you learned? >> reporter: jim, this is most unusual. a shooting and robbery at this construction site in broad daylight at a construction site in the middle of nowhere, and tonight one of the victims is fighting for his life. it happened off danville road in the brandywine section of prince george's county. the two tractor trailers robbed. one of them was shot. >> one of the male victims was shot and air lifted to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition. >> reporter: what about the other victim? >> the other victim was uninjured. unharmed. >> reporter: the victims work for rlo contracting, an excavation company out of dayton, maryland. the trucks carry what they call grindings, remnants of trees and stumps removed during the site-clearing process. by phone today, i talked to rlo contracting representatives about this violent crime. >> we really don't know what to make of it. we're really stunned. the first time anything like this has ever occurred for us. >> reporter: it's so unusu

pat collins spoke to the victim's wife and right now is at the scene with their story u and e details of an arrest. >> reporter: he was from jordan. he was the captain in the military. e he came to our country in 1999 looking for peace and prosperity. he ends up getting murdered, beaten to death during a robbery on december 17th, they would have celebrated their 12 wedding anniversary. in fact, they met at this gas station where e he worked on route 1. and it was here at this gas station that he was beaten to death during a robbery last weekend. >> our anniversary is next week. it's going to be hard. >> you've been married 12 years. >> uh-huh. >> for him to die this >> it's hard to accept that. >> reporter: charged in the murder 50-year-old david washington pictured here in surveillance video from the murder scene. the murder suspect was no stranger to this area. people around here say they remember him crossing route 1, back and forth, back and forth for days. listen now to ken whitt lee, he's doing construction work here. >> sometimes he'd come out here sometimes e he would come fro

pat collins is at police headquarters withha this is a strange one. >> reporter: indeed, a traffic stop leads to a big drug bust. with the help of the suspect himself. look at all that pot. bags and bags and bags of pot. about 250 pounds of pot seized from a mini van driven by this man. it started as a routine traffic stop. they say he was doing about 66 in a 55 zone. this is the officer, the cop who made the arrest. he asked that we don't show his face. he said he made that traffic stop, smelled marijuana and after some questioning tosi admitted to hauling the >> what was his dmoern throughout all this? >> he was pretty calm. he was straight forward with us on the stop about how much he had in the car. >> did he say anything else? >> he just seemed very worried about going to jail. >> that's where he is. >> yes. >> so he's worried. >> yes. >> reporter: according to court documents, he said he was coming from pittsburgh and headed to virginia beach. he says he really doesn't have an address. that he finds different places to live for weeks at a time. take another look at all that pot. t

pat collins is covering montgomery county for us tonight. what's going on? >> reporter: well, he's got a gun and he's getting bolder and bolder. police want to get before someone gets hurt when you watch this, you'll understand why. what you're about to witness is a carjacking. the man carrying the black plastic bag is a suspect. victim, a woman in the front seat of this car at the shell, silver spring gas station. the man forces her out of the can car but he lets her keep her bag and cell phone. another customer tries to intervene. the customer backs off. then the suspect drives off in the stolen car. forgetting the pump nozzle is still in the tank. once he stops to fix that, he finally makes his escape. now, the suspect in the carjacking is a man linked to a series of four gas station robberies in silver spring. each time the gunman makes the same demand. but the carjacking is something new. for police, most concerning. >> this is the fourth robbery of a gas station he's been linked to and in a robbery he's escalated his level of violence. now he's carjack

pat collins has more on two crimes that have rocked the normally quiet d.c. neighborhood. >> reporter: an armed carjacking in a case of murder. sunday night violence along the western avenue corridor. what's going on here. an armed carjacking near the 0 5600 block of western avenue. about two hours later, less than two miles away, a man shot to death inside his car on 32nd street northwest. this kind of violence most unusual in this part of the city. >> very upsetting. hopefully get to the bottom of it. >> reporter: the carjacking, it happened on belt road off western avenue. a woman coming home from the grocery store's confronted the man with a gun. we have agreed not to use her name. >> i realized in his right hand he didn't put it in my face. it was like i got this. give to to me. i was like don't this. >> were you scared? >> yeah, but it was all i could muster. i have never had face to face crime before. >> reporter: the suspect takes off and leaves her standing there. >> i was standing there like, okay, fumbling for my phone. >> reporter: less than two h

pat collins has reaction from witnesses. >> reporter: october 25th might not stick out in your memory, but here in tacoma park, it's a day they will not soon forget. >> i was working behind the bar. a guy ran in off the sidewalk, came into our restaurant looking all freaked out. >> this guy was really shooked up. of clothes they're wearing? he says, yeah, i seen the whole thing but i don't remember. he couldn't remember because he was so upset. >> reporter: october 25th, that's the day two masked gunmen with assault rifles robbed a brinks trunk here. it happened at the suntrust bank right around lunchtime. a brinks truck pulls up to make a delivery. the driver gets out. opens up the money door and as he does, a robber with an the driver's head, forces him to the ground and makes off with a lot of cash money. alvin smith, he was here, he saw that brinks driver right after the robbery. >> wow, he was pretty shook up. he had to go over and take a seat. he was trembling all over. so basically i think it was the element of surprise that got him. >> reporter: the fbi isn't saying how much m

let's get to pat collins live at the park this evening. pat?reporter: wendy, the murder victim, 27 years old. the murder suspect just 17. we're learning more and more tonight about this unusual in a popular neighborhood park. the murder victim, 27-year-old rayshand cotton, the murder suspect, his friend, 17-year-old demiko aiken. the scene, the brook road neighborhood park in capitol rayshand kotscotton found behine rec scenter here. he'd been shot. according to documents he was scantily closed and badly burned primarily on his lower extremities. the intersection of rollins avenue and rollins lane in capitol heights, that's where murder suspect aiken and his 16-year-old accomplice were arrested yesterday by police. arrested as they were sitting in the murder victim's suv. this is what police are saying about the case. >> it appears that aiken and the victim were some sort of acquaintan acquaintances. >> what's the motive? >> the motive seems to be right now robbery. the preliminary motive. >> reporter: according to court documents murder suspec

as news 4's pat collins reports, agents are focusing on two new clues from the crime scene. >> a lot of foot traffic, businesses in the area that were open at the time of the robbery, so very brazen, very bold. and that's why we need to get those individuals identified and off the street. >> reporter: the scene, this suntrust bank in tacoma park. october 25th. it was noon. lunchtime. this brinks truck pulls up to make a delivery. the courier gets out. he opens up the door. as he does, a maroon car pulls up behind the brinks trunk, a guy gets out with assault rifle, forces the brinks man to the ground and says this is no joke, give me the money. the robber reaches in, grabs a bag of money, walks slowly back to that maroon car and off they go. >> we have a lot of robberies in delaware which the fbi covers. we don't see this every day with two men show up with assault rifles and attempt to take over an armored car in the middle of the day. >> reporter: this could have had tragic consequences. >> yes, sir. we're very fortunate that no one was injured. >> reporter: two big clues here. the
