i'm pat lawson muse.his is an exciting time of year for high school students, seniors in particular. many seniors and their parents are so excited about getting those college acceptance letters, but they are also trying to figure out how to pay for college. this morning we take a look at two local programs dedicated to helping students make it to college and make it in college. our guests are nancy leopold, executive director of college tracks, rodriguez is president and ceo of the d.c. college assistance program, known as d.c. cap. chad smith is a d.c. cap adviser. welcome all of you. >> thank you. >> to "viewpoint." since d.c. cap started back in 1999 now-of-given out quite a lot of scholars. talking about? >> we've given out $35 million in scholarships, and we've been very fortunate. we have a lot of support from the community. we've sent about 23,000 students to college, and we have almost 7,200 college graduates now. >> so, d.c. cap grants are given for two and four-year colleges, for vocational -- >

>> pat lawson muse, thank you. >>> we now know the name of the man killed by a police officer in prince george's county. it happened at the franklin park apartments in greenbelt late last night. greenbelt police arrived to find 28-year-old rico johnson up on his balcony. they say he fired shots at them as they tried to evacuate from a safe distance, an officer shot back killing him. no one else was hurt. a police cruiser with a bullet hole was still on the scene here hours later. >>> police say nicole mittendorff loved her job as a firefighter and paramedic. tonight, her family and fellow firefighters are desperately trying to find her. they found mittendorff's car at the shenandoah national park, but she's still missing. as search teams comb the woods, julie carey reports on a public plea for help. >> reporter: nicole mittendorff's locker at fire station 32 in burke, un the missing firefighter's husband and sister gathered today with her fire fighting family hoping to more broadly spread word of her disappearance in hopes new tips can bring her home. >> we gather here today as brothers

pat lawson muse has our story. >> 45-year-old robert stewart is now recovering.stretch of florida beach waving to rescuers. he's the only survivor of a weekend fishing trip. >> it was very rough out there. and from what we learned later, the boat was under water almost immediately. >> it was supposed to be a fun day on the water. stewart was with palm beach county sheriffs deputy fernandez jones, his 9-year-old son jaden and a third man, willis bell. when they failed to return, rescuers began a frantic search that extended into the night. >> if they're adrith they may have come even this far up, you might want to start looking if here south. early monday morning, three of the missing boaters were found along with their capsized sea ray. stewart was discovered a short time later, he said he survived by clinging to the boat through the night and watched helplessly as his friends struggled. he said he tried to cling dot boy. who was wearing a life vest, but the rough seas pulled them apart. michelle jones is grief-stricken after losing her son and her husband. >> i

news4's pat lawson muse joins us now with details. pat? >> jim, police say sebastian isaksen had a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit when he caused an awful wreck just before christmas of 2014. today he learned he'll spend the next 16 years in prison. during the sentencing hearing, isaksen turned to the family of crash, and addressed them directly. isaksen said he will be forever sorry and he takes full responsibility for his actions. prosecutors say he stole the ambulance that stopped to help him after he rear-ended a car on the beltway. the victim's sons say the sentence provides them little relief. >> got two little girls at home that, you know, really revered their granddad and, you know, it just hurts that they're not going to be able to grow up and know him. >> a very kind-hearted person who was just minding his own business and this tragic accident took his life. >> the sentence included 40 years with 24 of those years suspended. that means if isaksen violates his probation after he's released he could have to s
