last year in a single bill signed by governor pat mccrory who you saw there, north carolina shortened the period for early voting and got rid of same-day registration altogether. 2016, voters will need to show a photo i.d. and student i.d. cards including those from state universities, flagship universities, unc chapel hill, will not be accepted as a valid form of i.d. the new law got rid of a program in which 16 and 17-year-olds filled out registration forms early and automatically registered when they turned 18. there's something new in the case made against that law. an argument that according to "the new york times" hasn't been made before. it's being made by a group of college students who joined the lawsuit against the state of north carolina. making the claim that the new voting law violates the 26th amendment. an amendment which lowered the voting age from 21 to 18 and declared the right to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the united states or any state on account of age. now, if you want to understand the political stakes of all this, nate cohn of "the new york times"
