after sandy hook, when a bipartisan policy measure from senator joe manchin, as well as senator pat toomey, a democrat from west virginia and a republican from pennsylvania respectively, put forward a plan that would essentially not only enforce the laws that we already have on the book, but also take a hard look at enforcing mental health issues and concerns regarding gun control, that failed. and so i think that there is a bipartisan policy area for republicans and democrats to come together on, particularly on the area of mental health. but you look at what they're fighting about, and it's a debt limit or it's keeping the government open, and it's both sides. >> right. >> so it's unfortunately nothing gets done here in washington. >> and i think a lot of people want to hear from these candidates, especially those running for president more than just, they're in our prayers. they want to hear some kind of difference. all right, thank you kevin. we appreciate it. >> thank you. >> and our week in review is next. it takes a lot of work... to run this business. but i really love it. i'm on t

pat toomey joined with joe manchin from west virginia for some movement for checking out who gets guns but certainly i wouldn't call it gun kroechlt it's just an effort to keep hgus out of the hands of crazy people. i think it will be hard, besides hillary clinton, trying to find somebody out there, who is willing to say we have to reduce access to guns especially for people who are emotionally and mentally disturbed. >> you will have people who will want to talk about the mental health aspect. >> yes. >> but again you'll have the discussion of, you know, this is a group of voters and conversation in american politics that has a lot of anger toward government where they're not looking to give government more discretion over people's rights and responsibilities. it's volatile. it's emotional. you mentioned earlier if someone was in a rural community and has to defend themselves, that's something that is eye opening when you hear people talk about it. then, of course, there's been tremendous gun violence in chicago. the president's hometown, in a city setting, day in, day out. not mass s

pat toomey scenes the most tragic thing. the decrees from those schools are not worth the decrees from any state university in the country. and they cost a lot more. they are exactly like subprime aggressive lenders in advertising ever from the city subway to late-night tv and so forth and making promises about the value of decrees which is not true. it's really at extraction mechanism of the public funds for private shareholders. i think that needs to be really on the political radar as well. starting to be a little bit but hopefully very quickly. >> there's a great book about that. and just basically if you look at the racial demographics of who is going to the for-profit colleges, is largely black women who end up with a degree, as you said, that doesn't mean as much. returns and wealth are not as great. they are saddled with debt spent a lot of these for-profit companies are owned investment banks. this is not taking any stuff. they send their people to welfare offices and to black churches to drum up business, line two

it's legislation pat toomey has introduced. he also calls it the full faith and credit act. you know, every time we have a debt ceiling fight, the democrats scare monger. they say, if you don't raise the debt ceiling, america will default on its debt. now, let us be clear. that is a blatant lie. they know it's a lie. i'll note when barack obama was senator obama, he voted against george w. bush raising the debt ceiling. he said it was unpatriotic to raise the debt ceiling. that's when the debt was about half of what it is now. everyone who votes here later tonight, you should remember that senator obama said, if you're voting to raise this debt ceiling, what you're doing is unpatriotic. those are the words of a young barack obama. but the reason it is a lie, every month's federal revenue is about $200 billion. interest on the debt runs between $30 billion and $40 billion a month, which means in any given month, there are ample revenues to service the debt. no responsible president would ever allow a default on the de debt. and, indeed, what a responsible president should do
