patel, what do you do if you test positive for covid right now?t and have little kids? >> all relevant questions. we look at cdc guidelines, they haven't changed their recommendations, they really do recommend that you isolate for five days and that for the second half of a ten-day period and if you're not symptomatic, that you're feeling good that you still wear mask. i know that many college students are finding themselves in close quarters, i encourage them to also continue to wear mask but in order to determine when it's safe to be around people to use a test to make sure they're negative because you can feel really good, but you can cough and kind of sneeze and even if you're not sick and still be positive on an antigen test, so i encourage people to get those antigen tests. just to make sure that if they're around someone else that they don't unintentionally get them sick. five days of isolation and wear mask for as long as you're symptomatic or if you're testing positive. >> i actually wore a mask around my husband for the second half of th

>> let's bring in abc seven news meteorologist sanjay patel for a look at the forecast. sandhya >> yeah, and dan and karina, this is beneficial rain that we are expecting. i want to show you live doppler seven right now because we did have some showers move through parts of lake and mendocino counties, just a short time ago. those showers have not been heavy, but as we just heard from the fire crews, definitely beneficial and welcome rain. any rain that we get around crescent city, eureka, some places are picking up close to two inches of rain in the last 24 hours. it's an atmospheric river that's pounding the pacific northwest. we're just getting the back end of this cold front. and so it's not going to amount to a whole lot, but it will deposit much needed moisture into the vegetation. it's also prompted a high surf advisory, which is for tomorrow between 5 a.m. to 11 p.m, up to 20 footers for the steep sloped beaches means dangerous swimming and surfing conditions. watch from far as we go hour by hour, you will notice those scattered showers while you're sleeping at 3

. >> for details on all this, let's get to abc7 news meteorologist sandhya patel. sandhya yeah, julian. >> and let's take a look at the air quality. it just got worse for a few cities from san francisco to oakland to san rafael. it is orange which is poor for sensitive groups, moderate across many other parts of the bay area. it is best to stay inside, close your doors and windows and put your ac on. recirculate these are our tower cameras and you can see from mt. tam, it's very hard to see because of the haze. and here is a view of it, an air quality advisory remains up through tomorrow as we are expecting the smoke from wildfires in northern california and oregon to continue to impact us during this time period. we go hour by hour with the smoke forecast and notice that that smoke just gets worse towards tomorrow morning at 6 a.m. as the winds relax a bit and then the wind will pick up. so that will help to disperse some of that smoke as we head towards tomorrow. we also have fire danger coming up. i'll be back with a closer look at that coming up. julian >> okay

. >> abc 70 meteorologist sandy patel is here with that forecast. hey, sandy. >> hi there. >> and julian and omar, the forecast is looking good today. temperatures came down, the winds came up. let me show you some live pictures from our tower cameras. and you can see just a lovely mix of sun and fog out there. right now. the winds are steady, 27 miles an hour are coming off the ocean in san francisco. so breezy out there. so if you are stepping out, you may need to bundle up as we go hour by hour, 6:00 tonight, 20 to 25 mile an hour winds. they pick up a bit along the coast at 9 p.m. over 30 miles an hour. and then the winds will drop off in the overnight hours. and then tomorrow afternoon, it'll be another breezy one, but not quite as strong as today. the upside to the onshore winds. we have good air quality across the entire bay area. and as we look at a live picture from our san rafael camera, it is a sunny view. good air quality will continue the next three days for any outdoor activities. a trough to our north enhancing the onshore winds, which is why we saw the coole

checking in with sandy patel.and kristen and larry, it's going to get better as we head towards friday and then this weekend, it's going to be a lot better. so let me show you a live picture right now from our south beach camera. we are still dealing with hazy skies around the bay area because of the smoke from northern california and oregon. we also have low clouds, as you will notice, along the coastline that are lingering. that marine layer is about 2400ft deep. so it's become well established. there is an area of low pressure to our north. this is going to slide southward and the winds are going to pick up later on tonight across parts of the north bay. let me show you that animation there. and you can see it as it continues to move down towards us. parts of the eastern portion of california. that's what's going to kick up the winds, humidity is going to drop, which is why there is concern about fire danger in the north bay mountains. parts of lake and solano counties, 11 p.m. tonight until 5 p.m. tomorrow. we

let's get to meteorologist sandhya patel for how the weather is going to be. sandhya, it's going to be nice for the weekend. >> julian and omar. let's take a look at the temperatures right now. if you like what you see, then you're going to enjoy this weekend. temperatures in the low 60s to the mid 80s. this afternoon, many areas running cooler than average with onshore winds contributing to that novato gusting to 20 miles an hour. it's a sustained win of 22 miles an hour in san francisco. so the circulation around the area of low pressure, that's sitting off the coastline is counterclockwise cause that's the onshore winds that's providing us with the deep marine layer and the cooler weather. and that trend is going to continue through the weekend. and this low is cut off from the main flow. so it's not going to go anywhere anytime soon, which means we'll keep those temperatures below where they should be for several days. right now on live doppler seven, you will notice the clouds that were banked up along the coastline still there. here are some tower camera

right checking in now with meteorologist sandhya patel for a look and the answer. yeah late tomorrow night, going into thursday, it will improve julian and emma as we take a look at the sunset from tonight from mount tam, you can see just how smoky it was. >> smoke just shrouding the bay area and you can see the haze in the air from our emeryville camera looking at the port of oakland. visibility is low around parts of the bay area. not just because of the smoke but because of low clouds over two miles in half. moon bay, six miles in oakland, san jose reporting four mile visibility. you normally have ten mile visibility. it gives you an indication of how things are looking 50s and 60s on those temperatures right now on live doppler seven, we have some low clouds right near the coastline that area of low pressure that has been providing us with the cooler than average conditions still with us. but it's going to kick on out of here as we head towards tomorrow as this trough to our north deepens. it's going to push it on out, but that trough is going to bring gusty no

meteorology sandhya patel is here with the forecast. yeah absolutely. >> and dan and karina, it was in the low 70s this afternoon in san francisco. so good looking weather, but it is changing. good evening, everyone. let's take a look at a live picture from our golden gate bridge camera. the flag is blowing around in the wind. you will notice that the fog is trying to regroup. but what's happening is the wind is blowing. it's gusty right now to 33 in oakland, san francisco, 33 sustained sfo, 33 miles an hour. these onshore winds not really allowing that marine layer to regroup very well. but we do have some low clouds near the coast as we go hour by hour, 6:00 tonight, 20 to 25 mile an hour winds still with us, gusty along the coastline. later on tonight, winds let up inland and then tomorrow morning, they drop off tomorrow afternoon, it'll be another breezy one. but bright skies, as you will notice from our kgo roof camera right now. windy right now along the embarcadero, 67 in the city, oakland, 72 degrees. it was a warmer day for jus
