this is patricia eric on behalf of concerned residents of the sunsets. i've been listening to supervisor mar repeat the same thing several times. also in the sunset beacon, he said that the lawsuits are inadequately addressing the traffic volume in the coming months. that volume is already here. somebody needs to be courageous and open the upper great highway during the week so commuters and residents feel safe again. we have an extremely safe situation, and no one is doing anything about it except more studies, and supervisor mar says safety on our streets need to be the primary consideration. i have yet to see that be an issue with anybody. >> clerk: thank you, caller. hello, caller. your minute begins now. >> good afternoon, supervisors. roland -- [inaudible] >> in the interest of time, i will be submitting my comment in writing. thank you, and enjoy the rest of your afternoon. >> clerk: thank you, caller. hello, caller. your minute begins now. >> hello. charles perkins, district 7. throughout today's hearing, i've heard repeated reference to vision z

this is patricia eric. i want to make a comment about your great concern about transit time for commuters. and i find it ironic that while you're showing great concern here for the north, meanwhile you're leaving thousands of commuters sitting in congestion and gridlocked here, that lincoln and great highway. i would like you to show the same concern for commuters, who cannot give up their cars because of the distance, and the bus service is woefully inadequate. you can do a great deal for connect san francisco right now, today, by opening up the great highway at least during the week. show some compassion for the commuters and the safety of the residents and at least open this highway during the week. 5,000 people have signed the change.org to open the highway. that's a substantial number of people. so please do the right thing, and think about the commuters who are trying to get to work and to pick up their kids and get home, and they're sitting in misery in gridlock out here. thank you. >> clerk: thank y

this is patricia eric. i'm calling on behalf of the concerned residents of the sunset. about 10:00 this morning, there was a car flipped over an park presidio northbound at the car filter and 25th avenue. this is just another example of how dangerous the traffic surrounding the park is right now. in the study on page twenty-six says one of the goals is restrict nonparked traffic to streets at the edge of the park that slowly separates business and shopping and commuter traffic from the park experience. this is one of the stated goals and this is another very clear reason why we should open up the upper great highway. the upper great highway is one of the primary conduits to the park. >> thank you, caller. hello, caller. your one minute begins now. >> hello, can you hear me? >> yes. >> great. my name is francisco. and i live in district 9 and i'm in favor of the possible expansion of closed service roads in golden gate park. i think the problems that this might create for car users are greatly exaggerated and specifically i'd like to address the one of folks who are disa

this is patricia eric for concerned residents of the sunset. today, when i checked, we now have 7,778 people who have signs who've petitioned to open the great highway. the june 15th re-opening of the city should also coincide with the opening of this highway. supervisor mar, you have done harm to your constituents. you had the power to close this highway down, i don't believe you don't have the power to open it up to make this highway stay closed until october 15th is unconscionable. it's time to open this highway. people need their cars. you're living, all of you are living in a fantasy world where we're going to have a car-free san francisco. people need their cars. we've spent millions on improvements for bicycle riders. how about showing some concern for the wellfare for working people who have to commute in their cars and for the safety of sunset residents. you won't even compromise. i look out my window all day long and there are maybe two to three people during the week. open it up to cars during the week close it on the weekends. super
