our economics correspondent patric patric patricia sabga is here. >> this is definitely a mixed bag, one thing we should also state, richelle is that right now the markets are tending to really focus on the negative. the headline number, the economy added 151,000 jobs last month. that was below what a lot of economists were looking for. on the bright side, though, the unemployment rate went down to 4.9%, and another positive in the report was the labor force participation rate. that's the number of people either looking for work or have a job. that went up. so that is a positive sign. another positive sign was average hourly wages. they had a real healthy bump. so this is a very, very good thing, because we have been wanting wages to pick up. but of course, the markets are going to have a negative read on some of these aspects. for one thing the jobs engine is slowing down. and we have kind of expected this, but this was more than some people were expecting, but the other thing too richelle that the markets are concerned about is the federal reserve and what the federal reserve is go

. >> let's bring in patricia sabga who also keeps it real for us lay people. are a lot of great things about this jobs report. but it really is a mixed bag. what do you think is the best part of this jobs report? >> undeniably the best part is average hourly wages. they went up $0.12. year-over-year, that's about a 2.5% increase. and that is a healthy bump. it's not the 3, 3.5% that would really make a big difference in people's lives, but at least we're getting some wage pressure there. another positive were manufacturing jobs. manufacturing has really been in the doldrums because the u.s. dollar is so strong. it has made u.s. goods more expensive to buy overseas. but last month the economy created 29,000 manufacturing jobs. that's another big positive. the other big positive is not only that the unemployment rate went down, but it ticked down for the right reasons, because the number of people in a job or actively looking for one, that actually ticked up slightly, and the president was -- >> yeah, a reporter asked him about it. and he was like let me make su

al jazeera's patricia sabga has more on the summit's agenda. >> we were able to complete the negotiations>> reporter: it's the linchpin of president obama's pivot east. the trans-pacific partnership, massive trade deal which the white house claims will work to counter china's growing power in the pacific and beyond. >> we should write those rules. >> reporter: all 12 nations involved signed the trade deal earlier this month, but around half now need to get their governments to ratify it. a process already proving contentionous in the united states. opponents like former labor secretary say the deal will shift jobs to countries with lower labor costs, but supporters claim some of those lost low-wage jobs will be replaced with high-skilled bitter paying ones. >> he is opening up important new export opportunities, and those export jobs generally pay much higher wages, 18% or so. >> reporter: access to affordable medicines is another hot-button issue. so is the impact the deal with have on the environment, with those opposed pointing to a clause that allows big corporations to sue government
