they're hoping that will help to arrest and charge the person who killed patrick fong.he shooting was yesterday. >> our officers responded to called of a shooting on 2000 block of avenue. our officers made contact, who was suffering from gunshot wounds. >> reporter: phone died at the scene. his girlfriend heard the shots. he was in the neighborhood and call asked them to rush to the scene. >> we have been working with the community to try to address this violence. >> reporter: chief armstrong says he doesn't think fong was admitted for anything other than his money and car. chinatown and oakland in this particular area. >> it wears on you after a while to see again and again and again. it's like when did our lives become so disposable. >> reporter: oakland china town's executive jennifer lee started a gofundme page to help his family. she says he worked two jobs and was the only provider for his elderly parents. >> e ultimately ended up taking his life. >> reporter: lee says the asian community won't stop demanding that police and city officials do something to increase

she joined other leaders calling for justice for patrick fong. he was fatally shot two weeks ago as he was starting work as a ride-share driver. >> we are hoping we can find ways so they are more resources to prevent crimes from happening. >> karl 10 is the president of the chinatown chamber of commerce. a reward for information leading to the arrest is $10,000. he believes more police patrols must be part of the solution. the police chief announced a new liaison officer, fluent in vietnamese, to patrol middle saigon. >> we are also in discussions with the business prepared to provide us a substation for the officer to be housed and work directly with that community. >> a local business owner has other concerns. especially with more surveillance footage, he says there needs to be investigations. >> until someone is caught, this will continue. you will see more press conferences and victims, more armed robberies. >> chief armstrong insists in a big city like oakland, his department needs more funding to tackle crime. >> it takes people to do work.
