we have developing news in patterson where just over an hour ago, police found the car expected to be in the abduction of a small boy. it was pulled out of the canal just about 5:30 tonight. they have been focussing on that canal for about a week after a witness said they saw the suspect vehicle drive into the canal. first we turn to ken prichet that's been at the canal all day with the recovery efforts. >> gasia, as we take you in on the scene, it will be difficult for the incoming fog, but that location is where the suspect's car was pulled ashore about 5:30 as you said. that car had been lodged in an underwater tube. the car when investigators took a look at it was empty. two of the car windows were rolled down. now the sheriff says they will look for bodies in the canal. here is what sheriff had to say a short time ago. >> i have been cautiously hopefl bring little juliane alive. there's no information, evidence or anything else that tells us that this car went in the canal and hose fled the scene. >> from almost the beginning the evidence pulled to rodriguez rodriguez's car in th

we are here at the canal near interstate 5 a few miles from patterson. the sheriff's team on a tip came out to this location to start their search in the canal. they found one object first early this afternoon which turned out to be a part of the canal structure itself. then what you should be able to see -- they located a car submerged in the canal. they use aid tow truck after dive teams went in and then towed the car out of the canal on to the bank. that car turned out to be a stolen vehicle out of patter southern unrelated to the kidnapping of the -- the kidnapping of the 4-year-old. all of this -- all of this search is taking place because a witness spotted a car matching the one in the alleged kidnapping last night -- that witness spotted that car drive into the canal. if you take a look at this surveillance video taken before the kidnapping this is the car police have been looking for. it's a toyota corolla. it was scene driving into the canal according to the witness. the 4-year-old was kidnapped 45 minutes before that witness account. he had bee

and nick janes is live in patterson with more on the plan of action for today. good morning, nick. >> reporter: good morning, sydnie and elizabeth. on a foggy morning here in patterson, dive teams are expected back in the delta mendota canal about 8 a.m. this morning but this is shaping up as such a bizarre investigation. first of all this spot is two miles from the original search area. you remember they pulled five stolen cars from this same canal last week following some fresh tire tracks that were found in a report from a witness who saw the vehicle that looked like the suspect's drive into the water last tuesday which is the same day that little juliani the 4-year- old boy was ripped from his grandmother's arms, authorities say, by jose rodriguez. it's so unusual, authorities say, because even with the strong current in this canal, it would be very highly unusual but not unprecedented for a car to be carried this far downstream. again two miles from the original area. the other part that's so strange though is that in the eight days since the abduction happ

we're back at the delta canal about three or four miles south of the town of patterson and behind mep against the concrete wall is where the sheriff's office said yesterday they have found yet another large object in the water here. they are not certain what that object might be. they were unable to get it out yesterday. their intentions are to come back today and once again try and remove whatever that large object is in the water. we have videotape reshot earlier in the day to show you the work that has been going on. the sheriff dive team has been dragging another mile or two of the canal once again to double-check that there are another other large objects out in the water. the technique has been to use a large cable to pull it up and down the canal. when it snags on something large they try to retrieve it. as you probably are aware in a day or so nine different vehicles and one of them a motorcycle has been pulled out of this canal. this canal is unfortunately a dumping ground for people that steal cars and trucks that might get stripped and it's easy to drive that vehicle or pu
