patly lee is -- patty lee is live at the scene. >> reporter: the effort is under way right now. let me show you what's happening right here. san francisco police have surrounded some of these occupy protesters, but the occupy protesters are also now surrounding police officers. they are linking hands. now, inside these circles you can see occupy protesters sitting down. they have pitched a symbolic tent, a gesture. others are holding hands, in this circled perimeter. there are about 250 to 300 protesters here. and an estimated 100 officers. i've talked to some of these officers who say they have not been briefed yet on when or even if they'll be ordered to remove this group from this area. but it is not likely these protesters will be allowed to stay. just half an hour ago, city crews removed the portable bathrooms that once lined the perimeter here. but tensions are starting to run high here. protesters have been shouting cops go home, and free speech. this is a public park. but for now, it is a wait and see situation here as to what happens next. live in san francisco, patty l
