patty is live in boston tonight and patti you spoke with bay area runners there at the site of the explosion. >> reporter: we're live at one of dozens of vigils here in boston tonight. this one is near the blast site. you can see people have dropped off flowers, balloons and left messages. among them are bay area residents grappling for answers tonight. >> reporter: the finish line of the boston marathon today became a memorial of sorts for the 140 injured and the three lives lost. >> like everyone it's emotional to go back there. >> reporter: melissa malone says she cannot wait to fly home tonight and hug her children. she says she witnessed the explosion after she stepped out of the medical tent. now she can't forget the horror. >> i saw two big explosions at the finish line and immediately called my husband hysterically and tried to get out as fast as possible. >> reporter: her husband waiting for her near the finish described the confusion among the spectators. >> the people at the finish line and they were busy helping the wounded and trying to get people out safely so i don't think the

suspect number 2 was in custody and it came just like patti just mentioned erupted in one house in a town neighborhood. this video is posted on youtube within the last hour after those shots were fired. they took the 19-year-old suspect in custody and crowds were lining in the street cheering. he's listed in se conditions according to police. just four hours ago police came out and held another press conference hey, we are drawn back the tactical team, we just cannot find suspect number 2 but then 30 minutes after that shots were fired and officers swarmed around the house and a boat found on the property. at the time the sun set back east, the 19-year-old was surrounded by swaut and the law enforcement were very -- number of explosion were heard. as officials tell the store rishgs it was a watertown resident who gave the final tip to police. >> he then opened the tar on the top of the boat and he looked in and saw me and covered with blood, he retrieved and called us. we set a perimeter around that boat and over the course of the next hour or so, we exchanged gunfire with the suspec

patti ann browne live from our new york newsroom. patti ann?reporter: jon, the latest fire was last night off the road deep in the woods as many have been. it was abandoned two-story wooden structure. this is the latest more than 70 fires set deliberately on virginia's eastern shore since november. almost all have been set at night in abandoned or vacant buildings in desolate areas on the peninsula that separates the chesapeake bay from the atlantic ocean. this is 450 miles mainly farmland. so far no one has been hurt but investigate, are concerned that the fires will spread or someone will be hurt putting out the blaze. they don't know what the motive is. pyro mania is a possibility, that the arsonist is fascinated with fire and not looking to harm anyone. investigators say the arsons may be work of more than one person since some have been set almost sultly at separate buildings. they have gotten 200 tips but no solid leads. a $25,000 reward offered for information that leads to arrest and conviction, jon. jon: what a mystery. patti ann brown
