when "patton" came out many people believed it showed an anti-warfield. they used that as evidence against waging war and against especially the vietnam war at the time. there were also people, president nixon among them, who thought that "patton" was pro war. they were dealing with the same exact movie. it became kind of a litmus test for them and you could see it and understand when scott comes out in front of that huge american flag, how that makes us perceive what we're going to see on the screen itself. i like to think -- the book that i wrote, the research guide to american war films -- i was a coauthor -- i teach film and so we had a really nice movement there. i would like people who read that book to see how film influences war how war influences film. and i think it works both ways. i think the image of war on films influences the feelings, the attitudes of the people who fight the wars and perhaps even the way that wars are waged. on the other hand, i think that the way that wars are actually waged influences the way that films are made and how

his first book was about eisenhower and george patton and bradley and how they provided leadership on the allied assaults, especially the european assaults on nazi germany in world war ii. when we heard he was writing his second book to figure out of way to get the museum on the books they need to reread the to have you back. his latest book covers the alliance of the american war effort but this time from the perspective of the president fdr and his war cabinet. the men who were responsible for assembly eng securing the forces of victory and this is a particularly interesting topic from fdr as the commander. so this will be an exciting program but before i call him up he didn't just come down here to talk this evening he did extra duty to go above and beyond to work with us through the leadership academy who came from around the country to put the headband struggle of world war ii and the 20th-century and with the shipyards and went to a variety of sites through this city and got them into the swamps with john was there with him to give examples and discussions on the broader issues
