we're back to talk about that and more with congresswoman marsha blackburn, anna navarro, paul begala senator blanche lincoln. let's talk about rand paul. he very much focused his big announcement this past week on hillary clinton. he did have something to talk about. he was doing well in two battleground states. but is that really right for republicans to be so focused on her right now? shouldn't they be battling republican ideas within their own party is it. >> you know what is so interesting, this weekend at the nra convention in nashville there was a lot of talk about hillary and what she's going to bring or not bring to the table. i do think that what we should do is be out there talking about big ideas and what we're going to do. american people are ready for big ideas. they are tired of being broke. they want this economy to get back on track and all of our contenders -- which are all male right now -- hopefully we'll get some women into that mix. >> make it official now. >> no no no! i'm just the chief mama in charge of great ideas. and we need to talk about more of those idea

. >> interesting, paul begala pointing out, van, earlier that in 2008 they were trying to hide the fact that she was a woman and now it's all about, and not all about and very much and that is being played because she's saying this is who i am. i am a wife. i am a politician. i am a grandmother now. do you think that is resonating so far in the early going? >> look, i think i am the grandma-in-chief line approach will work very, very well. listen, different people have different views about her, but you have to remember that there are a lot of young people in this country that weren't paying attention and they were watching sesame street during the 1909s and they'll look at hillary clinton and give her a fair shot. i'm watching other parts of the party and how they're responding and how they're reacting and you're seeing people like bill de blasio and he's not going to endorse yet and he's holding out for a populist, economic view and you have people that black lives matter and the people protesting about police brutality and where is she on criminal justice and you have parts of the pa

because, as paul begala says last time around they forgot to mention she was a woman. this time around they're not going to forget to mention that but it will be implicit in everything that hillary clinton does. sitting around the kitchen table, trying to figure out how people pay their bills, et cetera et cetera. those are images that women understand in particular because if you look at polls, you know women are the ones who say they pay more attention to their family's finances taking care of their parents, taking care of their children dealing with child care all the rest. and that's going to be part of what she's going to emphasize. >> so it sounds like you don't think the baking cookies and making tea, the comments that have haunted her along the way, those will not haunt her? >> of course they'll come up. everything is going to come up. we have already seen that already. everything will come up from the clinton years, but again it's a different demographic voting and, you know you have to sort of gauge how important that is and we don't -- we just don't know the

paul begala democratic strategist cnn political commentator, provider for u.s.n political commentator and republican strategist. kevin, we're coming to you in just a second. begala i'll give you a little breath on this one. you got the big head line out of there on the democrat side. are you that happy that your candidate has to run against herself from jump? would you not like a little sparring partner in there for her to kind of test her wiles? >> you know me well mr. cuomo. i love hillary. my super pac i advise supports her and yet you're right you do want a test. you want a challenge. the hillary/barack death match in 2007-2008 produced a smarter, tougher barack obama. what am i going to do? you want me to run against her? >> yes, i do. >> what i do see is this the rollout worked. there were a few elite columnists who pooh-poohed it hillary was already very well known and well loved and she moved up. as jeff zellny reported a moment ago she moved up seven or eight points in the enthusiasm democrats have for her. i will say this is as good as it gets though.
