but paul begala, i want to start with something you said you're interested in talking about because i don't think we've dug into it enough. yes, democrats are celebrating tonight. but there are still lessons to learn, and potentially things that they should make sure not to forget. what is your view of what your party should take from this. >> every democrat should listen to what reverend warnock said today. you know victory night speeches like blah blah, thanks my mom. he wants to say something. to his country and his party and his state. and i think it's this. this is what i take from it. there is great power in healing and in humility. that's not weakness. that's strength. and, you know, the natural inclination is if you think the other guy is a bully, you want to be a bully. if you think the other guy is extreme you want to be extreme. reciprocally is in the human heart. i think reaching out to the other party, governing for people's lives rather than some ideological quest, being modest, being a centrist, being bipartisan, therein lies the path to victory. denzel washington said

democratic strategist paul begala and former democratic south carolina lawmaker bakari sellers. eat to see you both. paul, starting with you, when you think about what a 2024 run might look like for president biden, how different is the political landscape now? >> well, he's the incumbent. and we just came through an election with everybody's thinking we're moving in the wrong direction and yet we re-elected all the incumbents. 96% of governors who ran for re-election won. 97% of members of the house who ran won. and 100% of senators. never happened in american history. so actually, people right now i think are afraid of extremists and comforted by incumbents. so in that sense -- plus he's really done a terrific job. he's done more in two years than somebody half his age could have done in four. so i think he's got the wind at his back that way. i like his odds for re-election. >> of course a big difference this time around would also be the fact that he would be doing the job he would also be rung for which is a lot more on his plate. bakari, you've said that biden was the perfe

and i think he is celebrating and moving forward based on what paul begala just said about how well hisis going. >> abby, is there consensus among washington democrats about whether the president should run again? >> i think that both paul and david are right. there is an emerging consensus. i think a lot of democrats believe biden is perhaps at the strongest position politically that he has been since he won beating donald trump in 2020. and the midterm elections have a huge amount to do with that. you are hearing more and more, even biden's own most staunch critics, of this generational argument they have been making, starting to say, well you, know, he's done a good job so far and if he, runs i will lead back at him. maybe i want someone else from another generation. but so far, that person has not emerged. the one complication to all of this is i think democrats feel most strongly about this if biden is running against donald trump. if that person on the republican side is someone else, someone who is younger, who does represent a changing of the guard on the republican side, i thin
