paul burton is live with an -- federal authorities. paul burton is live with the latest. >> reporter: police wrapped up the press conference five minutes ago and the than me cr -- the man they were look for a known gang member is under arrest. gabriel perez was arrested around everettt after escaping and running from officers during a homeland security sweep. police and federal off thers arrested 56 people in the boston area for gun drug and criminal charges. perez was arrested on criminal activity and immigration offenses. custody and rand down the street in handcuffs. he's known gang member and a gang ms13 who had previous charges of assault and careying a dangerous weapon. he somehow escaped from sommerville and got the a ride from a friend and arrested in everettt. many schools were on lock down as police severed the area. >> scary thing. we have a lot of 3 and 4-year- olds in there and it's pretty much a family neighborhood and a lot of families live on the street but as long as we were locked down and we didn't have much choice o

paul burton has the story. >> reporter: a brazen attack on phone. you can see the suspect identified as andrew bowman hauling off on the officer inside the cruiser. what do you think of that? >>i think this is outrageous and this kid needs to take and do serious time this is unbelievable. >> reporter: police say the assault took place on new year's day around 2 a.m. at the parking garage of 1 city hall plaza. he said you heard about the war right? in the face. drunk. and he had way too much alcohol self. >> reporter: the officer showed retrained fending off the attack that lasted 45 seconds. the officer returned punches and radioed for help. >> the cop responded well due to everything happening. >> i think the police officer should have defended himself and locked the guy up. >> reporter: after the attack bowman ran away but was arrest and charged with assault and about theory on a police officer cause -- battery on a police officer trespassing and resisting arrest. >> society as a whole, it's gone bad but then again i blame it on the court systems

paul burton has the story. >> reporter: what's typically a quiet, peaceful setting turned tragic saturday morning after authorities recovered the body of a man in mill pond. >> it was very sad. >> reporter: derek house lives right across the street from mill pond and said he knew something was wrong when he saw route 16. mansfield police say on saturday they received a call from family who hadn't heard from their adult son. after an extensive search, his body was found in the icy water. you can clearly see mill pond is not frozen over. it's unclear what that man was touring down here and what he wanted off the firefighters found his body in about 10 feet of water. the ice is too thin. people shouldn't be honest. i don't know the circumstances around it. >> reporter: house says mill pond isn't accessible but people go down there to fish and ski. >> it flows quickly. it's really shallow and there is a riverway on each side so it flows fast. >> reporter: the man's name has not yet been released. the death does not appear suspicious so far. >>> turning to our weather. what a difference a year
