. >> reporter: but commonwealth attorney paul ebert originally charged the veterinarian with felony murder after her 2-year-old son ryan was found dead in the family van last june. prosecutors say murphy had driven to work at an animal hospital with the toddler strapped into his car seat and didn't discover ryan until she came home later that afternoon. he died in the hot van. it was the second time murphy had forgotten to drop her son off at daycare. the child was discovered unharmed after a similar incident in january. as part of the plea bargain murphy received a suspended two-year prison term. instead she'll be free to do 400 hours of community service at the local animal shelter. >> i don't think justice will be served by making her go to penitentiary. secondly, if she is convicted of a felony she'll lose her ability to practice veterinary medicine. >>> through an online facebook page dozens in the community rallied around dr. murphy during the eight months since her son died, many outraged by the initial murder charge. >> they knew that dr. murphy was a good person and a great mother
