first alerted meteorologist paul hagan is tracking the temperatures for us. paul? >> low temperatures tuesday running around 10 degrees below average, which is cold, near or even below freezing for inlet parts of the bay area, but this is the kind of cold snap that we get two or three times every winter. the 30 degree low temperature in santa rosa, yes, 2 degrees below freezing, but, it would not even be in the top 50 coldest mornings in santa rosa in the last five years. this is something that happens on a regular basis. it is late january, it is a cold time of year, and we will be safely above record territory to begin the day tomorrow but the closest we will be is in seven cisco, just below 40 degrees but the record is 37. some of those record low temperatures are really frigid. low 20s in santa rosa and livermore within the realm of possibility this time of year, but we will not be that cold tomorrow morning, just throw another bucket on the bed. make sure that if you have other animals they have a warm place to snuggle up for the night, and make those outdoor

i thought be like paul hagan. >> we will see more rain unfortunately likely more problems over the next few days. looking at what we expect, a big picture pattern showing the dry break. a brief dry break. the rain hasn't gone away but transitioned further up the coast , temporarily. going through tomorrow let's take a look at future cast. we remain drive through the evening with some hit or miss showers possible for the northbay as we get to midnight or so but the bulk of the rain will be moving in tomorrow morning. this will be light to moderate rainfall. morng commute but it shouldn't result in any widespread flooding. localized flooding concerns for the rest of the rainy weather pattern but this shouldn't be enough to be a huge all-day concern. the heaviest rain looks like it will move off toward the east in the afternoon with on and off showers possible through the evening. a brief dry break takes over until saturday morning the next wave of rain charging in and approaching the coast already by 5:00 in the morning. this will spread more heavily and more sustained rainfall across the

. >>> paul hagan is here to show us all of that. >>> destructive and even tragic as the stretch of weather has been it has had a huge impact on the drought situation. to put that in perspective let's look at what the drought monitor map look at one month ago. the bay area at least a moderate drought conditions. plenty of north bay and east bay in extreme drought conditions. the second-worst category. here's the latest update from the drought monitor the came out this morning. almost the entire bay area now in moderate drought conditions. severe drought has been pushed into the central valley even that is shrinking. the extreme drought has been completely erased from the map. that is what 24 days of extreme rainfall will do from a drought perspective. it is the same story across the state. 0% of the state and exceptional drought. 0% of the state extreme drought. less than 50% of california in severe drought. it is the first time since may of last year that none of the state is an exceptional drought. the first time since november of 2020 that we see that number being that low down to 43% in

it's a good time to bring in the first alert meteorologist paul hagan to talk about rain totals. i was at lake shasta a few months ago. this is where the water should be, it was way down the boat ramp. you know. it's a different scenario now. >> this helps but as reservoirs only are half-full as much rain as we've seen we have 50% of capacity to go through. breaking down the rain pattern eventually. it won't happen in the short term . there's another first alert day with rain showers falling through this evening. first alert doppler were showers in the santa cruz mountain surviving into the santa clara valley in showers in alameda county around livermore and the past. the bulk of the rain and storms to the central valley toward the west of san andreas with activity pushing further toward the east. we will see another wave of heavy rain coming our way early tomorrow with gusty wind as well. another system, the last in this parade coming our way sunday into monday. that will be followed by lingering showers by tuesday and wednesday but that will be very light activity. we have two

the santa cruz county -- >>> with our first alert meteorologist paul hagan on what is to come. >> more rain. it is only a few hours away. with take a look at what is happening on first alert doppler right now but we are still in a break from rainfall at the moment. a little bit of drizzle, that is not enough to cause problems but what we will see is a lot of rain moving in through the west after midnight, tonight, likely hitting the coast around 2:00 a.m. then making its way further inland. the fast progression limits the amount of time that the heavy rain will be falling through saturated soils. the ground is so wet, that even a 20 minute downpour is enough to cause localized flooding. this will push further north by 4:00 in the morning, but more showers and even thunderstorms taking shape in continuing to move in off and on. it's not often that you see this weather is for the bay area, but portions are under risk of severe thunderstorms. not just waiting and thunder but the possibility that stronger storms will produce damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 miles per hour. we have anoth
