let's start tonight by giving you the paul harvey rest of the story. 14 million people in this countryurchase insurance on the individual marketplace. if you purchase health insurance from an individual marketplace, there are no changes made to your plan. you can keep it. amazing, isn't it? you're grandfathered in. however, if your insurer, meaning the insurance company, makes changes to your plan like changing a premium or deductible, or your plan is no -- and your plan is no longer valid -- okay. you would get a cancellation notice and that's what is going on right now. and be forced to upgrade to a plan with standards under the affordable care act. folks, this is all about standards. these 14 million people that buy insurance on the individual marketplace, some of them are going to get these notices, because they have -- i can't use the "s" word. they have crappy insurance. raising the standards of health care in america and making sure insurance companies live up and actually deliver what they're supposed to is what obama care is all about. now, i would assume if a network anchor w

i remember when i was younger there was a radio commentator, a man named paul harvey. and his little motto in his radio bits was to surprise you with the rest of the story. well, will not negotiate, you don't even have to go to the rest of the story. go to the rest of the sentence. the rest of the sentence is that the president and the majority leader will not negotiate while the other side is holding hostages. while the tea party is holding hostages. here is what our former colleague, my former ranking member on the budget committee, senator judd gregg, has said about this. "a small group of republican legislators led by the junior senator from texas decided to take as hostages government operations and the raising of the debt ceiling." well, those are exactly the hostages. federal employees who can't work, people and businesses who want or need federal services, those families we've heard so much about today who lost loved ones on the field of battle and can't get their death benefits. and there's an even bigger hostage out there, which is the threat of a catastrophi

speaker, the late paul harvey had a radio program for many, many years that many of us listened to and in that radio program he would tell us the rest of the story. well, mr. speaker, for the next hour, those of us on the majority side, the republican side, most of us from texas, although we're going to have some friends from michigan and perhaps from florida, too, we're going to tell you the other part of the story, the rest of the story. we are going to start by continuing this mantra from the minority side that we ought to bring up the continuing resolution, the clean continuing resolution or c.r. from the other body, the senate , and life would be perfect. there is one tiny small problem with that. and that is, mr. speaker, that that continuing resolution funds the discretionary part of something that is technically -- legally called the affordable care act but most people in the united states are now calling it obamacare. mr. speaker, obamacare is a entitlement. it's not just a federal program. a change is fundamentally the way we practice medicine in the united states of america.
