let's send it over to our chief meteorologist paul heggen to see who will get it the worst and how long it will stick around. >> unlike the heatwave from the summer it was disbursed, we are farthest from normal where the heat advisory is. that is around the bay, peninsula and into the santa cruz mountains the temperatures ranging from the upper 80s to lower to middle 90s. that is about where we topped out today. take a look at today's high temperatures, 95 degrees in san jose, not quite 90 degrees. we got close. the temperatures got into the lower 90s in redwood city, up to 90 degrees at half-moon bay airport.the temperatures got up to 90 degrees or above. inland, east bay, mostly in the middle 90 exps in the north bay, lower to middle 90s this afternoon. very similar temperatures, pretty much across the entire bay area tomorrow. let's take a look at tomorrow's forecast highs compared to where we are supposed to be this time of the year. we will be a good 15-20 degrees above average. 80s at the bay, farther inland. this kind of heat has the fingerprints of climate change. the orange sha

let's head over to paul heggen with what we need to know. >> we have a treo avenue -- trio of advisories. the one that is top of mind is the red flag warning for most of the bay area, not just the highest elevations, some lower elevations have been included. gusty offshore wind combining with low humidity levels to really elevate the fire threat. the highest gusts are going to be in the northbay mountains where we could see 60-mile-per-hour wind gusts. that is a dangerous combination, the fire conditions may not be quite as dire in other parts of the bay area but they will also be elevated. we also have a wind advisory mainly in the higher elevations, we have the potential of downed trees and power lines. be prepared for some power outages, whether or not they are caused by the wind or just pg&e trying to get ahead of things. this frost advisory is in effect for the northbay through tonight, it continues through 10:00 am on saturday, temperatures dropping down into the 30s. some locations dropping down to the 20s, those will be very isolated. make sure any plants are going to be covered

paul heggen lets us know what to look out for. >> we have alerts for saturday and sunday, the fire concerns are the top priority. red flag warning goes into effect at 5:00 am on saturday and continuing through 5:00 pm on sunday for most of the bay area. the highest elevations are going to experience the strongest wind, the offshore wind is going to be gusting potentially up to 60 miles per hour, and combined that with relative humidity levels around 10% and that does significantly elevate a threat. we are also under a wind advisory generally above 500 feet in elevation, that continues through sunday. again, 20 to 30-mile-per-hour sustained wind from the north to the northeast, bringing the possibility of a threat but also the potential for downed trees and power lines. that is the last thing we need when the fire fuel is still fairly dry despite the showers we had last weekend. finally, we have a frost advisory in effect for the northbay valley's overnight tonight through 10:00 am on saturday, temperatures dropping down into the 30s, there could be some locations even dipping down into the

chief meteorologist paul heggen joining us now.e got a pretty good soaking most of the bay area, actually quite refreshing yesterday. >> yeah. for late october standards, not bad, generally what we expect with the first measurable rain of the season for everybody across the bay area, most of us falling in the 0.1-inch to a 1/4 inch range. we've seen plenty of sunshine reemerging this afternoon. that will stick around again tuesday. we'll start with the santa clara valley, 0.1-inch of rain, pretty good in one of those october systems, just a few hundredths inch of rain for los gatos and under a 0.1-inch for livermore and just over for antioch, redwood city, 0.01-inch officially, half moon bay less than a 0.1 of an inch, almost a 1/4 inch for san francisco and the highest amounts in the north bay. santa rosa picked up over a 1/2 inch of rain. numbers are variable, less than 0.2-inch in novato, but not too far away they picked up more than 2 inches of rain, everything determined by elevation with these types of systems. we'll see temp

. >> first alert chief meteorologist paul heggen and he was a close look at what this means.like you talk to one person they say it means more rain, and others say not so fast. >> typically, el nino can go either way for the bay area. it will definitely be an el nino winter, let's start with that part of the forecast. it is just analysis of what is happening now. we can bring in our virtual- reality globe, and focus on sea surface temperatures. you can see the oranges, reds, even purple along the equator, just west of south america, stretching far into the pacific. that is the fingerprint of el nino, those abnormally warm sea surface temperatures. it is not just one ocean water, it is the effect it has on the odyssey are above those warm oceans, it displays the typical weather patterns, like if you added a new boulder to a stream, it affects things further downstream, it rearranges how the gestures behave around the rest of the world, particularly over north america. let's take a look at what we typically associate with those el nino conditions during the winter months. aroun
