we welcome paul holland, foundation capital. ul held a meeting last week with top voices from the valley. great to have you back. we know the valley is traditionally blue. any reason to think it's going to be different this cycle? >> no, i'm afraid not. that's not likely to change. one of the things we have seen, of course, over the last several elections, you've got really kind of some different kind of candidates. you know, hillary clinton has done a very good job of forming relationships out here. the clintons are well-respected. i think they did well by the tech economy. the republican situation is obviously kind of like a broken field situation in football. so everybody is watching that. as you know, we gathered together about 40 people from the silicon valley at our home with my wife, my colleague, meg sloan and tim dyson. and we had a very spirited discussion, but it was incredibly cordial. we had about a third of the people there were right of center. a third of the people were probably in the center. roughly a third wome

joining us is paul holland. r current portfolio includes several cloud infrastructure companies including some you see here. cloud on and mobile iron among them. paul given what we have seen this week, strong earnings, strong revenue growth from adobe that was early in the cloud game on the software as a service side. some pretty encouraging notes out of oracle as well. it seems like not only on the earlier side but also some of the more mature cloud players actually doing okay. was the pessimism earlier in the year overdone? >> i think the pessimism was overdone as it relates to a number of things that were happening in the public markets. what you're all wrestling with is a little different. a number of private companies got out ahead of themselves. we have a significant bubble going here in the private market valuations so i think you're going to see some adjustments around it and the public market has taken care of that for them. but the concept of what's going on behind the cloud is so large. it's a once a g

he had a quote from paul holland.ave written checks, and it doesn't make a damn bit of difference. how does the valley feel about the issues that matter to them and the way the debate is taking shape? >> yeah. i think the -- from the silicon valley lens, i think the h1b immigration issue is fairly unique. i think what the politicians do not talk about is the fact that the h1b issue is a by bifur indicated issue. when bernie sanders and trump is against h1bs increasing and when someone like ted cruz completely flip flops from going 300,000 h1bs, more than what rubio was trying to get across, and now, you know, 180-day complete review to hillary clinton, who is quite neutral about topic. and the reality is, in silicon valley, i think the h1b works. apple and google wants to hire the best graduating from berkeleys and stanfords. learning special things they need to fight in the global arena. however, when you look at the outskirts of austin, outskirts of dallas, outskirts of d.c., atlanta, you know, a lot of u.s. jobs ar

hollande. they will be turning up about refugees. paul, tell us more about what's to be expected from this meeting. >> reporter: there has been a frantic and very busy period of diplomatic activity here in france in the past couple of days. it continues today with president francois hollande greeting angela merkel. the e.u. turkey summit meeting is going to take place in brussels on monday, looking at ways to hopefully come up with comprehensive ways of addressing the refugee issue. as far as the meeting that is going to take place here in paris today, there's going to be a news conference at about 11.30 g.m. t where the two leaders will come together and tell us what they've come up with. essentially it seems that they're going to - the predictions are that they're going to try and form some bilateral common plan which they can agree on in advance and present to the e.u. turkey meeting on monday. i don't think it's any coincidence as well that the president met with the prime minister daichd cameron-- gaved cameron on thursday. that too
