paul johnson: the lesson i take from this, it's always fascinating to me.ome from a state with a very conservative legislature. it's not even a fair word. often times people who are on the extreme, our goal is to bring them back to the center. it which is a leftward movement. in other states, you see the exact opposite where the democratic party has overwhelming support and they stifled out voices as well. it often times is not an issue between right and left. it's simply an issue of do you have a voice or do you not have a voice? what is probably the single most important thing in the movement is that is not going to be carried off by a single state doing what they want to do. it has to be a national lever. it there has to be a national group of people coming together to talk about its importance. you will always find differences, and you will begin to find that area where we have common ground and move it forward. [applause] paul johnson: i think that also speaks to the existing architecture in the system which isesigned to keep people out. it is designed to be exclusive. if you go to arizona independents makeup 35%, they are the largest unorganized group, they outnumber republicans and democrats. yet, if you run for governor in arizona as an independent, you need 6000 signatures as a democrat, 7000 if you are a republican, 39,000 if you are an independent. if you are on the ballot, your last. -- you are last. the others rotate. you have to have a voter list because you have to know how to communicate with voters. it is free viewer a democrat or republican. it is $100,000 if you want to run as an independent. and last, this is the one that is crazy to me. in 1994, we passed an effort to allow independents, and i was involved in this, that allowed independents to vote in the primaries. the primaries -- one of the things they have done is, they have said we have an automatic early voting list. you end up on the list if you voted on an early ballot the year before unless you are an independent. if

paul chambers joining us live outside the san jose police headquarters which is still reeling from the loss of officer michael johnsonr: that is correct, mel moral has continue today grow as you can see right here there are flowers, cards out here, from preschools and kids and those kind of things, this right here is from child kingdom preschool, we love our police officers, but as we said we caught up with a man who brought a banner, he hung this banner in remembrance of his friend, out here for the entire department. michael johnson served the people of san jose for 14 years as a police officer, that call to an accident march, potentially suicidal man threatening his wife, he was shot and killed by scott dunn ham, he was a man ruled unstable. last night a sharks sent out a tweet asking for a moment of silence prior to the game which seems to be a police protocol, the mourning ban is on a badge which is a way to pay respect to a fallen officer. and along with a note supporting the police department. he was in the academy with johnson, he stopped by to hang a banner. >> it is really hard to see a guy like michael lea

paul chambers joining us live. you are outside the san jose police department, and they are still dealing with the loss of officer michael johnson, paul? >> reporter: dave, very true. there is memorials closer to the police department and right here as here, as you can see. there are a lot of flowers here. this is an overfill of flowers, cards, pictures, posters and decals out here for officer michael johnson. a few minutes ago we got caught up -- an hour ago we caught one a member of his academy who made this poster for johnson. >> i wanted to us a an image of michael smiling, you know. we all see his id card photo of everyone. but michael was really, this is how he would show up to your call. smiling. with a smile. and he left you smiling. >> reporter: michael johnson served the people of san jose for 14 years. that came to an end when he responded to a call about a potentially suicidal man threatening his wife. it was there johnson was shot and killed by scott dunham, a man police describe as mentally unstable. there has been an outpouring of support for johnson's family. the san jose sharks sent out this tweet asking for a m

johnson. in london, paul handsy is an antitrust lawyer. ncs guide, ben leg -- and bias skype, ben leg.l start with you who worked at google for a very long time? what is your reaction to this. ? >> this is not a new revelation and the statements that we have heard so far -- i do not think they are relatively bland. we will see what comes out. i think a lot of it comes down to is number one if google is dominant and if they abuse that dominance. if you look at the universal search, google has 92% market share in europe. if you look at how people shop for hotels and consumer electronics and credit cards and banks, etc., they increasingly used vertical special sites and movable -- mobile apps and google is not part of that. yelp says that most of its searches come through it at. are they abusing it? from my time in observation, google will always be expense -- instrumental and saying how do we get consumers what they want. knowing google and the way they were, i do not think they ever said let us place our product first. consumers seem to like vertical searches first and they would say le
