newschannel8's paul lamison is in eagle 8 right now over the more about it. paul? >> reporter: good evening keith. here, take a look. we can finally see the accident. these are three of the six cars involved. you can see the back car hit the middle car, crashed up against another blue car which also crashed into another. there is one fatality in this crash and the bad news is, traffic is backed up over four miles. the only way off is the u.s. 98 exit up here in hernando county. though a lot of cars had already passed that. so, there is nowhere for the highway patrol to get them off the interstate. they are just in a waiting game. waiting until they clear this accident. they do have tow trucks here. but they have not yet begun to remove the vehicles from the scene. so it is going to be a mess up here in hernando county. back to you keith. >> again, the northbound lanes i-75 near brooksville. thank you paul. >>> also breaking tonight, in hernando county. two deputies are on administrative leave after shooting a mentally disturbed a deputy and sergeant were responding

nice paul lamison, just a gorgeous shot of the sky and the downtown area. maybe the atmosphere was a little more crisp today because the air was a little drier aloft. in fact, at the surface, the air was slightly drier. we can feel that around portions of the bay area. not all, but portions. it feels a little less humid. that picture was a little nicer. everything is moving from east to west. dry air we are talking about. the high levels of the atmosphere. of breaks the peninsula in half. the best shower chances in south florida. look at the clear conditions here. greater chased the mans of clouds an showers to the south. high pressure is the dominant surface feature and the flow is from the northeast. that is helping to draw in some drier air at the surface as well as mixing down some of that to the surface. that is post tropical storm hermine. last advisory issued on this one, 50 miles an hour winds. still spinning off the northeast coast causing and occasional squalls moving on shore. but it is still there. and pretty good forecast for that one. just kin

paul lamison is joining us now live. you are live over treasure island where it looks like a surfers are actually enjoying some of the waves out there. >> reporter: yeah, good evening rod. and they definitely are. i was surprised to see this many kids out trying to catch a wave here on the gulf hopefully, we can see one of these guys catch one live here. here goes a guy paddling. he is up. he is surfing. and now, even though it is fun and games for these guys and it is a good way to pass some time and surf here in the gulf coast, according to chief meteorologist steve jerve, he says the rip current effect is really high right now. it's a great chance for rip currents, rip tides. that's dangerous. if you are out swimming, those can pull you out to sea. they are on surfboards and a little more alert of what is going on. for your normal swimmer you should avoid the water at least until sunday. steve jerve says by sunday, the waves should be letting off a bit and it should be a little bet better for swimmers to get out. but

in eagle 8 hd, paul lamison, news channel 8. >> back over to leigh spann in the forecast center. >> i don't like seeing those swimmers out there. a high risk of rip currents all day. please be careful. we do have tropical storm hermine, 50-mile-per-hour winds as it races to 18 miles per hour. continuing to keep its tropical storm status through tomorrow morning when it exits off the north carolina coastline, and then puts on the brakes for the mid-atlantic seaboard. sunday, monday, tuesday, wednesday, this thing is just sitting there spinning, bringing rough rain and weather for them. but for us it certainly will be leaving us alone. here is a better look at where this system is now. you can really pick out the center of circulation coming south carolina. all the heavy rain wrapping around it, through north carolina, even still back into georgia and here in florida. this is a pretty massive storm system still drawing that up moisture from the gulf of mexico. so yes, it's a lot less rain than we've seen over the past couple of days. but the problem is we've had so much rain over the pa
