pelosi to give, by the way. look, i have been a defender of john boehner. i think he did an exceptional job when he was minority leader in 2009 and 2010, paul, really giving very strong principled opposition to the kind of policies that barack obama was promoting at that time, the stimulus bill, obamacare, and so on, holding the republican caucus in line on principled grounds. i think where republicans need to go now is look, we know barack obama is looking at governing from the left. we've seen that just the last few weeks, i think that republicans have to be very principled in opposing those policies and paul, one other thing, they have to get back to the growth message. isn't it interesting that in the last five weeks, nobody, neither party, has really been talking about what's good for the economy, how do we grow jobs and make the private sector more prosperous? >> well, steve goes back to 2009 and 10. 2011 and 12 weren't good for the republican house in terms of tangible accomplishments, they were great on liberal governments, but all you could say for it. how does boehner make the next two years better than the last two? >> well, on the-- he has already

paul ryan in the republican party are the ryan budget, and the republican house budget, they had -- ryan's budget kicked around for several years as ranking member of the house budget committee back when pelosi and the democrats were in power. he would introduce that budget as the minority budget, and i think 20% to 25% of republicans voted against it, and, yet, when the tea party wave came in and when the republicans retook the house, and now ryan was chairman of the house budget committee, he -- ryan was very, very clever to, for one thing, develop consensus among think tanks and the leadership as well, and the small number of moderates were drowned out, and ultimately, that bill passed with, i think, only four republicans voting against it, an astonishing, you know, kind of consensus. he's -- ryan's widely admired among the freshman class. a wise guy. what was written in the piece recently on ryan, ryan is one of those guys who pulled off the seat of being a politician who makes you feel like he's above politics. he's not about politics. he's practiced his own brand of politics, a cunning brand. >> should they lose on november 6th, and congressman ryan is re-elected running on the same da

sometimes you saw when nancy pelosi was speaker, she would vote against a war funding bill and the division we have seen them historic plea. a lot of people were looking at paul ryan, marco rubio voted no. grand paul voted no. paul ryan, a yes. what message does that send? that gave cover for republicans to come on board. john boehner, he got a lot of criticism today. he did not have to vote, but stood up and voted. he showed his conference what he thought. it was pseudo courageous. >> even though he did not have to vote, as you have underlined for us so far. we have some response there from a representative from speaker boehner's office. on your side, what do we expect the president to say when he comes to the microphone and about three minutes? >> i think he will laud the bipartisan nature and look ahead to what we have been talking about over the last half hour, what is coming in two-month's time. let's take a look at what has happened since the election. i believe it was the day after the election, richard, when john boehner appeared in the capital and conceded that revenues were going to be raised. he wanted to close loopholes, and some deductions, but d

pelosi. so far we have heard just one hoose republican. from michigan voting for another republican, not for john boehner, he voted for congressman paul levere 233 republicans, 200 democrats, two vacancies, so boehner can afford to only lose 17 republican votes. there were a lot more than 17 republicans mad at him about his handling of the fiscal cliff negotiations. raising taxes on millionaires. there is no official challenge to boehner. we expect him to win the speakership yet again, but the floor of the house is an interesting dynamic, organic place keeping an eye on the vote to watch it to its conclusion to see if john boehner is reelected speaker, which we expect he will be. cheryl: eric cantor did vote for john boehner, so it is a voice vote instead of the computer tally we all see on our screens with the tiny numbers you have to read but at least it looks john boehner will indeed retain his title as speaker of the house. nancy pelosi has to be re-upped as well. thank you very much. >> thanks. cheryl: right now of course stocks every 15 minutes, nicole, what do you have? >> looking at a biotech in particular. the stock is down 1.3% si
