now let's look at paul ryan's plan.ryan's plan for medicare, according to those who have analyzed it at the kaiser family found, 59% of seniors would end up paying higher premiums under medicare. i'm quite sure quite a few trump voters were not expecting him to come after medicare. is paul ryan planning to come after medicare for current recipients or think future people? and if it's future people, does that in any way alleviate the structure of the program? >> so ryan, when he first introduced the plan, was going to introduce this right away. as it became controversial and they were looking for ways to get it through, they said, all right, we'll change that. we'll hold off. we won't, you know, introduce it for the first ten years. if you're 55 or older, you can count on the traditional medicare, just like you always could. but then for 55 and younger, it would change. the problem is, you can't do it that way. as soon as you get that second pool in there, now you have a medicare program for people who are 55 and older,

david ade is in janesville with paul ryan who just accepted victory. bill: also between senator ron johnson and russ feingold. michele: joining us now in studio cbs 58 morning news anchor kate chapel. looking very interesting and taking shape since the last time we took a look, kate. kate: that is correct. 270 the magic number to win. as it stands, donald trump leading electoral votes 137-104. you can see a number of states have been called at this point. you'll see a lot of red on this map early on but, again, none of those major battleground really the election is anyone's game. a couple notable wins for trump so far. by size anyway. texas 38 electoral votes. not shocking since texas has voted republican in the last nine elections. he also took indiana. that has 11 electoral votes. again no surprise. that is typically a red state and also governor mike pence's home state. also electoral votes. as for clinton, she has wins in several east coast states. not a big surprise to see a lot of blue up there. alsoll votes. illinois voted democrat in the last

at least paul ryan certainly has. pushing the idea of a unified republican government, campaigning of sorts for donald trump and appearing on the campaign stage with mike pence. but this have not met face-to-face yet. paul ryan and donald trump have not met face-to-face yet for several months. they tried to meet once last week right before the election but that didn't pan out because of scheduling conflicts. the idea is to figure out where their agendas align and what issues they can push initially. jim mentioned about the idea of repealing obamacare. that's certainly something that's feasible through the budget process. at least significant chunks of that bill could be repealed. the health care law could be repealed. that could take several months to do. and the idea of replacing obamacare cannot be done through the budget process. he'll have to get 60 votes in the united states senate to get something enacted and that will require bipartisan support. there are a lot of things that both the speaker and the white hous

donald trump and paul ryan have had this very contentious relationship throughout the election. we've seen paul ryan over the last few days, saying he'd be willing to campaign with donald trump but it never ended up happening. we've heard paul ryan saying donald trump's name, the t-word, something he was reluctant to do throughout much of the campaign. now, you're seeing paul ryan trump, the healing process going forward if donald trump does in fact win the presidency. >> and we know paul ryan had a distaste for a lot of the language he saw, against the muslim ban. very strongly for free trade agreements. i can movement to get rid of the trade agreements. >> well, it's also international affairs, paul ryan favors a more aggressive u.s. foreign policy. that's not donald trump. they disagree across the board. it's hard for me to imagine them working together. perhaps on social issues, they could probably agree on the supreme court. and cokie, repealing obama care, replacing it with something else. and more tax cuts to promote economic growth. >> absolutely. and paul ryan has this

and paul ryan, part of the republican national committee, excuse me, will be with paul ryan and that is a critical meeting. paul ryan and donald trump is at odds and there is a behind the sceneses feud that got nasty and some supporters thought paul ryan might be defeated as house speaker. paul ryan disagreed with trump on nato and foreign policy and president-elect comments were racist and there is a lot of ill will there and the trump camp pain kept an enemy's list. that will be patched up. and we had that from the president and mr. obama and hopefully will get it to you. the president called it an excellent meeting. >> we talked about some of the organizational issues in the white house and talked about foreign policy and as i said last night. >> mr. president, it was a great honor to being with you. and look forward to being with you many more times, thank you. >> we are not going to take any questions. >> that's call the white house pool spray. send in one camera and a still photographer and at the end they cut the mike and at one point you don't hear it. it was not recorded on

>> reporter: hallie, speaker paul ryan really expected to waltz right back in to being speaker again has donald trump to thank for that. it's one of the spots of unity here on capitol hill. and ryan earlier today was leading what was really quite the show of unity today from the house conference when members went down into the basement here at the capitol building to talk about what's going to happen over the next couple of years. every seat had a red make america great again hat sitting on it and after their meeting, ryan talked to reporters and said welcome to the dawn of the new united republican congress. of course, this show, some division they are going to be wrestling with primarily between the congress and conservative republicans who have governed the house here and the new president-elect who, quite frankly, ran on a platform that went against a lot of the ideas that conservatives here in washington have been pushing forward for a while. donald trump was populist where this has been a republican congress that has pushed cutting the size of government, backing away from those

, paul ryan has been saved in a strange way by donald trump and all of paul ryan's dissenters are kind of fading into the background and saying, we need unity, we need to get behind paul ryan. there are very difficult things in the coming weeks and months. the government shuts down in less than a month from now. paul ryan, mitch mcconnell and donald trump have to figure out a way to keep it open and the health care issue, the wall with mexico, i mean, these are funny things and interesting things in the campaign trail. legislative reality is a lot different and it's going to be challenging and inside paul ryan's operation, they do not underestimate that challenge at all. >> they're going to have to start talking about the spending package in short order. no doubt about that. thank you for that. katy, the final word on this. there's been a lot of reporting about the transition and how donald trump is going to approach it. he has a learning curve. he would acknowledge that since he never served in office and reports today that this is not someone who delves into policy but he wants
