paula faris is here with that story. good morning, paula. >> reporter: good morning, robin.t these charges upgraded to homicide charges. she admits her son was drinking that night, but she is pushing back at many of the defense's claims. >> it's just really hard to know that someone so special -- you know, you just wonder why did he deserve it or why was he in the wrong place. >> reporter: this morning a grieving mother is calling for justice. pushing for homicide charges after new video appears to show a deadly encounter between her son and jamill jones, the former assistant basketball coach at wake forest university. the altercation was caught on surveillance cameras showing 35-year-old sandor szabo being knocked to the ground. police say he hit his head and later died as a result. >> i understand someone suffers trauma to their head i should call for help and stay with the victim. what did he do? he fled like a coward. all he did was flee like a coward and only four days later he turned himself in. >> reporter: szabo had been in new york city for his stepsister's wedding.
