let's go to paula hancocks. now, paula, do we know where the families of these four young women, these four israeli soldiers are right now ahead of the expected release of their daughters? >> well, paula, we had heard earlier from the forum for the missing persons and hostages families that the some members of the families had actually been told that they could head south and get to a certain meeting point. now that was in rem last sunday. it was in an area where the initial medical test took place, and then the mothers of those three hostages on that occasion were there to meet their daughters. so it could well be that the mothers once again, of the four israeli female soldiers that will be in that area in a holding pattern, waiting to be able to hold their daughters for the first time in some 15 months. it will be a very emotional moment, of course, for the families, but also for the country. you can see on the right hand side there, this is the the area that has become known as hostage square in tel aviv. it i

cnn's paula hancocks joins us live from abu dhabi. paula, we were just listening to an idf spokesperson there. you were listening in. take us through what was said and just the general reaction to this monumental moment. >> so, kim, in this, this this statement from daniel hagari. he said that. that they would be expecting more hostages to be released in the coming weeks, but was talking specifically also about the four israeli female soldiers that have just been released by hamas. they are now, we understand, in israeli territory. they are going to be taken to an initial screening area in southern israel, where they will have that immediate medical checkup and then be reunited with their parents. now, from that point, they will then be taken to a hospital where their longer term recovery will begin and where they will have the reunion with the wider family. so a very similar situation to what we saw on sunday. but we did hear from hagari some some criticism about the way that the hostages were handed over from hamas to the internation

as we are watching this unfold live here, i want to go to paula hancocks, who's watching from abu dhabi. paula, just emotional scenes, as you can imagine, on both sides, as we expect those israeli hostages to be released any minute now. and as well, the families of those palestinian prisoners who will also be released, what more can you tell us? >> well, kim, this is absolutely an emotionally charged day, as you say on all sides. what we're seeing at this point in palestine square in gaza city does appear to be the final preparations before the handover of four female israeli hostages who were taken into gaza on october 7th, 2023. now you can see fairly sizable crowds in this area. certainly, there is a very strong militant presence. we've been seeing flags of hamas, of palestinian islamic jihad, who have also, as we understand it, been holding some of the hostages since that day. now, the hostages themselves will be handed over to the international red cross. they will then be taken to the israeli military. they will be taken into israeli custody and into israeli territory, where they

i want to bring in our own paula hancocks from jerusalem, who's monitoring that situation. and paula, there's so much at stake here, especially with the situation in gaza worsening to such an extent. what can these talks achieve? >> well, fred, obviously the the best case scenario is that it does secure that ever elusive cease fire, the release of hostages from gaza in conjunction with palestinian prisoners being released. >> this is the end game. but we have been at this process for many, many months now that there have been these working level talks as they are in doha today, trying to to bridge the gaps between hamas and israel. now, we know that the israeli prime minister, benjamin netanyahu, convened a security cabinet meeting yesterday on friday, and within that he agreed the the mandate that the negotiators have that the parameters to what they can agree to at this point. we have also heard from hamas, and they said that they confirmed their seriousness and their positivity in trying to secure this deal. they are working level talks at this point though, so they there

cnn's paula hancocks is live in abu dhabi. and paula, underscoring just how fragile this is. we've heard that missiles have been launched from yemen at tel aviv. what more are we learning? >> well, kim, yes, it does remind you that this is about more than just hamas and israel. securing this cease fire. this happened just about two hours ago, and there were sirens across jerusalem and tel aviv areas in between. the israeli defense forces saying that they intercepted a missile from yemen's houthi rebels, saying that they didn't have any reports at this point of damage from debris from the the interception. it does remind you, though, that there are more players involved in this. now. we have heard from the houthis. they have said in the past that as soon as there is a ceasefire in gaza, then they will stop firing. they have been firing not just against israel, but also against shipping in the red sea. so as of tomorrow, sunday, we will be able to see if that is in fact the case. but if everything does go to plan, then this time tomorrow there will be no bombs falling in gaza.

. >> and our paula hancocks has more on the ceasefire and hostage talks. >> indirect talks have resumed in doha, qatar, between hamas and israel trying to secure a ceasefire and also the release of some 100 hostages still being held. >> now, we understand from the israeli delegation it is a working level delegation and we have heard from one official it is slow progress at this point. we had been hearing from sources on both sides. there was cautious optimism. but we have been here many times before. there have been many months of these negotiations and as yet they have not resulted in a ceasefire. but there was a stark reminder of exactly what is at stake as hamas has released a video of one of the israeli hostages, liri albag was a field observer at the nahal oz military base on october 7th when she was taken hostage. we are not airing the video itself as requested by her family. we're also not divulging its contents, assuming that she was speaking under duress. we do have a statement from the family, though. they say that the video quote has torn our heart to pieces. this is not the
