[paulson laughs] nobody quite made the music you made. it takes a nation of millions is not the kind of music that you heard from other people at the time. it's a statement that you didn't hear from other people at the time. what drove you in the direction of very pointed political commentary and in-your-face kind of music? our sole intent was to destroy music. [laughs] and sonically, we set out to do that, to redefine what people thought of as music, at least in the black urban sense and rap. and also to be able to say something. rap was basically about, to us, saying what you know and saying what you believe and just filling the rap up with words. and being that my first records, i'm 26 and 27 years old, i'm not going to try to sound like a 13-year-old kid, and i'm not going to try to appeal to them either, 'cause to me, rap was a grown person's sport, as it hit myself. so obviously, being a child of the '60s, i'm gonna say what i know, say what had impact and influence on me. myself and hank and others, we would promote gigs and put ma

[applause] i was struck by the number of times people have objected to your work. and yet, i've sat here with people whose careers have been marked by censorship and challenges. i'm not sure i've ever met anyone whose very first work at age 12 was censored by his adoptive mother. what was that about? well, you see, i started writing poetry when i was about eight, and she didn't read poetry. but when she found out that i'd written a three-act sex farce... [laughter] at the age of 12, or to be fair about it, probably 12 1/2, though still i didn't know very much about farce and practically nothing about sex at that time-- or at least, my knowledge of sex was singular-- [laughter] i wrote this three-act sex farce. very short acts. each act was about eight or ten minutes. and i'd like to thi

steve paulson joins us now from the weather center to let us know just how hot it's gonna get today. >> it won't be 124. but it might feel like it if you don't like anything over 75. temperatures soared 24 morning, they were in the 60s for many. we're already in the 90s. i love it when people in the city say, yeah, it's nice. yeah. go through the caldecott tunnel. it's hot out there. no kidding. a dome of high pressure is over us. livermore is at 94. concord's 93. fairfield's 93. interesting in the city, a west wind has started, yet the temperature did jump up to 80. that's very, very rare. 90 in san jose. where is the fog? it's really close. it's really close. it will be here tomorrow. but today is the day to go out and enjoy the beach. i think by tomorrow we'll be socked in. also in about a week's time, we'll have temperatures i think 20 degrees cooler than we have today. more on that coming up. >>> pg&e has restored electricity to thousands of east bay customers. power went out in concord about 3:40 yesterday afternoon to almost 5,000 customers. it also knocked out the traffic lig

steve paulson, our meteorologist, of course tracking the system as usual. but first we begin with ktvu in marin county. is it raining there yet? >> reporter: not yet. it is awfully cool here. we've seen the clouds forming. we've even been trying to track the storm on our phones out here and you can certainly see the radar shows the green making us way toward us here in the north bay. not something we expected to be watching so close to july. this rain isn't expected to spoil the 4th of july plans, but it is unusual to have it this late in the season. the rain could stretch as far south as mob ray, as far inland as san francisco causing some people to worry about the tourism system. >> my question is how long are you here for? if they're here for a couple days might be worthwhile to wait until wednesday. >> reporter: the reality check is even last year we saw some rain as late as june 25th. but we can tell you it certainly feels unusual. as we come back out live here we can give you an eerie shot of the clouds just sitting on the hill tops maybe a little rai

[light laughter] i've actually been arrested three times, and two of them were for my civil rights. i was protesting the war in vietnam. i was arrested on the steps of the capitol, and i went to jail for that. and there was another incident there in a protest against the war in vietnam. i was also arrested on an airplane for using a cell phone, but we won't talk about that. that was a terrible shock. i considered it, in a sense, a freedom of expression issue, but i don't think that they did. but i have had incidents where i've protested, where i've been involved with large protests ever since i was a kid. my father was in the radio business, and i'm not sure how he got away with saying a lot of the things

hank paulson i've knownor years in the private sector. had we not had those people, it would have been very significantly worse. they were confronting problems that no one had to deal with. i mean i would sit there and say i know what they're going through. because i have been in similar circumstances. but the order of magnitude was a small fraction of the types of problems they had to make decisions on, on very little knowledge. >> rose: do you think any of the decisions you made as chairman of the federal reserve contributed to the crisis that we -- >> the '08 crisis? the answer is no. and i wrote a long part of a paper for the brookings institution. >> rose: right. >> which i, if anybody wants to take e paper and tell me where i am wrong, i will-- . >> rose: in other words, you can't point to a single thing and say i would have made a different decision because i made that decision, it contributed to the crisis that we had to go through. is there anything left in monery policy to do? >> at the moment? >> rose: yes. >> no. >> rose: noth
