paulson to join us on the show.h more weiss, who joins us from our washington bureau. explain what mr. paulson has under management right now and how much is colleague money. mike: he has about $10 billion in net assets under management right now. it looks like a billion dollars of that is his money and to a lesser extent money from employees with the firm. the other $2 billion is from outside clients. vonnie: $2 billion is not chump change. it's a lot of money. miles: it is not chump change at all, but it's way down from what it used to be. mr. paulson has a fairly large staff. he has about 120-130 people in new york. clients are the ones that are paying fees. mr. paulson and employees of the firm don't pay fees on at least part of their investment in the fund. you need them to help support the firm. vonnie: part of this has to do with strategies that are preferred by the firm like merger arbitrage, which did not have a good year last year. the firm is trying to do something about that. changing strategies to an ex

paulson has said he does not want to become a private office. he will do his best to make sure that does not happen. he has opened a couple new funds over the past couple years, getting more money into those, and then it won't happen, but i guess it really depends a lot, also come on how his drug stock this year. he is sticking with them even though they lost money last year. if he gets good games, people could come back in. scarlet: performance dictates everything. miles, i wonder if what benefits, if any, are there to having outside investors. miles: if drug stocks like turn around,do do a bigger chunk of the profits are going to go to replay to mr. paulson and employees of the firm, since they own so much of the funds now. julia: you just mentioned they opened a number of new funds. how much client money is in the new funds? have they managed to attract clients to the ones they are opening? and i guess beyond performance, is there anything else that could lure investors back here? miles: i think at the end of 2016, the 2 larger of the new fun
