this is a photo of payton. it happened eight years ago on february 24th, 1999. thought, how did she feel? how much terror gripped her? she fought. she fought very hard. and he left her tied up and he left and payton was able to escape and freed herself, and she was almost downstairs and he came back in the house and there she was tortured. he finally decided to cut her wrist off so she couldn't fight him anymore, and she was sexually assaulted numerous times and then she was stabbed 17 times. the man who killed her is serving a life sentence without parole. we're not supposed to bury our babies. the day i saw her in her casket, her body was cold. she didn't have a smile on her face, and i told her over and over how much i loved her. because the day she was born i told her i would always protect her. and guess what? i lied. i lied. i felt like it was my fault. i stayed in bed for two months. my other daughter didn't have a mom anymore. i had to get up out of my bed, and i didn't want to. people started calling me, and i thought i've got to find out why payton die

let's check in with nick payton walsh on the ground for us in kabul, afghanistan. i assume this is basically what the afghan leader the new afghan leader wanted to hear right? >> i would imagine they could have perhapsed hoped for a slightly larger presence here of u.s. troops potentially more than that. yes, this will certainly not leave those who returned to kabul feeling empty handed. to some degree wolf it's symbolic certainly. it's certainly not going to open obama to accusations that he continued despite the security challenges here. but it's not a huge change. it's 4300 more troops for a maximum of 12 months. they talk about how that phasing down to an embassy only presence will be decided towards the end of this year. well perhaps he could not that decision that timeline on to the next administration towards the end of 2016. but it may well be as a result of iraq why the departure was so fast that he's keen to show some sort of adjustment of policy here. but those 4300 sticking around may also allow for a little more here. some logistics, some involved in c
