it's sweeping across pch. we saw it burning on the other side of pch for a little while. i mean, there's nothing on this side really to burn other than some grass. and then you've got the beach and the water. so i mean, that's the good news. at least on this stretch, there are no homes right where we're standing on this side of pch. of course, you go north and south, and that's not the case in other places. so i assume that's what firefighters are working on, trying to protect some of the structures that are on pch, because this wind is certainly pushing the flames that direction. i mean, they're coming down the mountain and then toward the ocean. so, you know, it's hard to see what's happening down there. we see a lot of emergency personnel. here's another part of that convoy, or at least a few other fire officials that are heading down there toward the south. so that's kind of where it looks like a lot of the action is happening. but just just quite a scene to behold. i mean, it is just wild up here. you see a palm tree. i don't know if you can see this, elliott, but se

we're standing right on pch right now. the closest landmark is dukes, an iconic restaurant that's been here for decades. i'm seeing home after home this morning that has been destroyed. this is on the north side of pch right now on this property. at least two cars are burned. the only thing really left standing is that foundational wall there on the back. and that brick chimney, the property next to it, seeing the exact same thing. and it looks like a third property as well. we have to tell you, we're pretty far west right now of where the fire reached. we're now officially in malibu. yesterday, the heart of the fire was in the pacific palisades. but thoseinds pushed the flames here. homes on both sides of pch. over here is the ocean. we're using these flashlights just because it's so dark. there's no power. homes destroyed, even motorcycles just left on the side of the road. power lines here as well, but home after home, a lot of it. still smoking this morning. there's little embers. we've counted dozens of homes in malib

one of the most identifying features of this stretch of pch between topanga, the palisades, topanga and malibu were these houses that lined the beachfront. some people called them the seashell houses, sandcastle houses. and they were just, you know, garage after garage after garage didn't look like much. but when you went on the other side and looked back, i mean, it revealed like a really genuinely beautiful house that was built right on the water. they had access. there was a beach. it was gorgeous. fires obviously have impacted this area before. they've impacted malibu. but to see a stretch like this along pch of, i think there's more than 80 houses that that were demolished is just not something that anybody has seen before. and as you can see, just like in the palisades, just like in altadena, there's nothing left. look at how hot this fire burned. i mean, the indication right here is obviously the bent and melted steel. but look at this car. the ground beneath the car gave way. look at the way that the fire tore through. what is left of this thing. i mean, i don't even i couldn't

and this is what we're seeing on pch right now. this iconic highway showcasing the california coast on both sides of the street, homes and businesses gone. but then we see pockets like these homes here that aretill standing. there's not a lot of rhyme or reason of why something is standing and something isn't. but what we do know is that so many homes and properties and families are destroyed by this reporting in malibu. brittany, hope back to you. thank you. brittany. let's bring in our meteorologist, vianey arana and vianey. we're not seeing those hurricane force winds that we saw like tuesday night. winds have died down a little bit, but they could just pick right back up this red flag warning extended now. that's right. and it wouldn't surprise me if it got extended through the weekend. the reason being is because the humidity is just so low. and by looking at the model runs, it looks like we have a potential for another wind event. so those wind gusts are expected to ramp back up overnight into tomorrow. i'm going to take you

i live down the pch. you think about everyone's whose lives have been upended in your heart breaks for them. my girlfriend, one of her friends have lost a home in the fire zone. we were able to pick up up metal cross for her and bring that out. whatever is left. this really nothing left for a lot of these folks. maybe if you are hard objects that did not burn is it. just come with me when you take a look at this, what can even salvage from something like this? photographs are not going to make it through. mementos, even fire safe safes only last for a little while before they melt down too. there's nothing left for these people. if you had anything in one of these homes, you've got nothing out. that's when the need is so great here. i think the mental trauma for a lot of folks, that is just beginning and that is going to be an issue we are going to be seen in years and decades to come. that's never going to leave these folks what they've lost and suffered through. x indeed it's a shock to the central nerv

and actually last night it jumped over pch, pacific coast highway. we're in the gladstones parking lot here. and you know the bay watch. a lifeguard stands were burned and some of the homes along pch this way were burned on the water side. so this is a fire of an intensity that we have not seen in a generation in, in this area. and just even living, you know, an hour from here in the valley, the winds were sustained overnight for so long that it was just unbelievable. they just didn't let up. and they aren't expected to let up until the weekend in any big way. so the number one thing that usually happens overnight is the fire lays dow and the firefighters have a chance to kind of get in there and do some good work. that didn't happen overnight. overnight was the worst wind period, and they had to actually ground all the helicopters that usually are able to go in and make those very precise water drops. without that, because they are less effective and more dangerous in this wind. any helicopter dropping fire, the water will dissipate before it even h

nine homes in this area have burned along pch.he ocean is only about 60, 70 feet away from me on the other side of those flames. the firefighters you can see right now are trying to stop this fire from moving to the next set of homes. and they almost share a wall that's how tightly packed they are together. but we have winds picking up down here near the coast. and 99 miles per hour in the mountain passes and again, this destroyed countless number of homes, we will get update around 8:00 a.m. local time. roadways, towns brought to a total stand still. in certain areas they have lost water pressure. they had to ground the helicopters last night around 8:00 p.m. because of the high winds. this broke out around 10:30 in the morning in the residential area called the palisades a small town north of soont. santa monica. it took many homes, a mobile home park. landmark, restaurants. senior living center. palisades high school. they had to evacuate a number of different areas. that created a gridlock on sun set boulevard. people were lea

it took an hour to get back to pch. it is really important to tell people in a crisis, anytime there is a crisis and you abandon your car, leave the keys in the car so guys like me can move the car so that firefighters can get through with the fire trucks. if you are able, help people and realtors and young people, mothers with anxiety attacks, people that are in trouble, help them. help them get out. we should use this kindness and compassion not only in crisis but all the time. >> we have lost steve but he did a remarkable thing. he jumped in, he was going up, there were people. we talked about this earlier, they were abandoning their cars because it was a parking lot. if you have ever been in palisades, that road, those roads can be very, very narrow. we can see this on video of the fires burning, people trying to get out left their cars and went and he was trying to get them out of the way. they had to bulldoze some of the cars to fire trucks could get in and help save. it is a remarkable thing to hear the stories.

this is the self-realization center. >> off of sunset at pch, all of the structures around the lake arell intact. only the bathrooms burned down. >> from 05:00am this morning, there's very little water here and that's hard to do. so we're trying to do is utilize our tools. taking water from pools, using whatever our boots just doing as much as we can. >> fire crews talking about the struggle they've had in containing the palisades fire because they have an overwhelming demand for water and that led to cruise having to commit to dry hydrants and then work around that and that in turn to miss the water pressure and in some cases, no water at all. the low supply is affecting residents, drinking water. now all across la. there's a notice from the county saying that people should only use boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking and cooking until further notice. and the concern over dry hydrants is raise questions about how bay area officials would prevent this from happening here in the event of emergency, retired fire menlo park says it's not unusual to deal with water supply issues
