it's sweeping across pch. we saw it burning on the other side of pch for a little while. i mean, there's nothing on this side really to burn other than some grass. and then you've got the beach and the water. so i mean, that's the good news. at least on this stretch, there are no homes right where we're standing on this side of pch. of course, you go north and south, and that's not the case in other places. so i assume that's what firefighters are working on, trying to protect some of the structures that are on pch, because this wind is certainly pushing the flames that direction. i mean, they're coming down the mountain and then toward the ocean. so, you know, it's hard to see what's happening down there. we see a lot of emergency personnel. here's another part of that convoy, or at least a few other fire officials that are heading down there toward the south. so that's kind of where it looks like a lot of the action is happening. but just just quite a scene to behold. i mean, it is just wild up here. you see a palm tree. i don't know if you can see this, elliott, but se

we're standing right on pch right now. the closest landmark is dukes, an iconic restaurant that's been here for decades. i'm seeing home after home this morning that has been destroyed. this is on the north side of pch right now on this property. at least two cars are burned. the only thing really left standing is that foundational wall there on the back. and that brick chimney, the property next to it, seeing the exact same thing. and it looks like a third property as well. we have to tell you, we're pretty far west right now of where the fire reached. we're now officially in malibu. yesterday, the heart of the fire was in the pacific palisades. but thoseinds pushed the flames here. homes on both sides of pch. over here is the ocean. we're using these flashlights just because it's so dark. there's no power. homes destroyed, even motorcycles just left on the side of the road. power lines here as well, but home after home, a lot of it. still smoking this morning. there's little embers. we've counted dozens of homes in malib

one of the most identifying features of this stretch of pch between topanga, the palisades, topanga and malibu were these houses that lined the beachfront. some people called them the seashell houses, sandcastle houses. and they were just, you know, garage after garage after garage didn't look like much. but when you went on the other side and looked back, i mean, it revealed like a really genuinely beautiful house that was built right on the water. they had access. there was a beach. it was gorgeous. fires obviously have impacted this area before. they've impacted malibu. but to see a stretch like this along pch of, i think there's more than 80 houses that that were demolished is just not something that anybody has seen before. and as you can see, just like in the palisades, just like in altadena, there's nothing left. look at how hot this fire burned. i mean, the indication right here is obviously the bent and melted steel. but look at this car. the ground beneath the car gave way. look at the way that the fire tore through. what is left of this thing. i mean, i don't even i couldn't

it took an hour to get back to pch. it is really important to tell people in a crisis, anytime there is a crisis and you abandon your car, leave the keys in the car so guys like me can move the car so that firefighters can get through with the fire trucks. if you are able, help people and realtors and young people, mothers with anxiety attacks, people that are in trouble, help them. help them get out. we should use this kindness and compassion not only in crisis but all the time. >> we have lost steve but he did a remarkable thing. he jumped in, he was going up, there were people. we talked about this earlier, they were abandoning their cars because it was a parking lot. if you have ever been in palisades, that road, those roads can be very, very narrow. we can see this on video of the fires burning, people trying to get out left their cars and went and he was trying to get them out of the way. they had to bulldoze some of the cars to fire trucks could get in and help save. it is a remarkable thing to hear the stories.
