by july i was in the peace corps. i entered the peace corps command by end of august i was off living by my own. and i had to kind of get around. and i learned responsibility in a way that i had never quite understood before when people come up to you and say is everything okay, is my money they're command you realize you're it. you are taking care of there money and making sure that their life's ambitions, whether it was to send the kid to school needed credit union money, needed savings for that are buying one of those foot pumps on machines or putting corrugated roofing other house was huge for them. so the sense of responsibility and then for me for people who knew about americans, i kind of realized that know one is indifferent. everyone has an opinion about our country. that was a lesson that lesson that i took to heart. but the biggest lesson, i had a credit union and a number of credit unions, the board of directors basically kind of made off with most of -- they had most of the loan money. 5% of the members o

my heroes were people like president kennedy, martin luther king, and i wanted to join the peace corps. i didn't... had no interest in royalty, or in thinking about changing myself. and in fact, to this day, i don't think i'm any different, except in what i have learned and experienced over time. i'm still the young woman who grew up in the united states, and whose life has evolved to encompass other cultures, other societies, and unimaginable responsibilities and love that as a young girl i wouldn't even have dreamt of. >> hinojosa: so you brought it up, love. there is something about your story which i think... people see the power of this love, and when they see pictures of you with your husband, king hussein, this connection that you had... and i think that... i remember thinking when i was a kid, trying to kind of do the double culture thing, because i was mexican, but i was also american, and just seeing you, and i was like, "wow, she was able to do this. she was able to bridge these two cultures." but so much of it was based on the power of love. >> a great deal, and while many

my wife kathleen likes to be called names that i brought back from the peace corps in swaziland.on is a grandmother and has no problem with the name. she wants the world to know there are certain strengths and a serious amount of wisdom to being a parent of a parent. she's out there looking over the horizon to the world, her grandchild is going to live in, rather than make it with someone holding on. she's leapfrogging to the future by talking about the world that's coming for, in her case, granddaughter charlotte. we never know how much thought goes into a comment from a politician. sometimes they speak without deliberation and say something brilliant. sometimes they speak without thinking and say something we call a gaffe. but having paid attention to secretary clinton over these recent months, see how she keeps her own counsel, i assume she's making a presidential run, i don't think she made this grandmother reference blindly. secretary clinton is letting it be known she's proud of her position and her family and her generation, and in her country, and she knows its strengths.
