we got a message from pearl harbor. back then they called it commander in chief something spelled cincus. decided that wasn't very good for moral and they changed us. we got a message that said buster pearl. away we went. i remember standing back near the after end of the flight deck watching us pave an oil streak all the way to pearl. we were concerned japanese submarines would find that streak and follow us. but we went into pearl, around the island, around to dry dock and they got rid of the likes of me and brought professionals aboard. i never saw so many shipyard workers. we were told to get out of there in 72 hours. admiral nimitz down with lis staff on the dry dock with waders, getting all the water up. 72 hours later, if i'm getting ahead of you, stop me. >> just briefly, as said, yorktown was hit by several bombs at coral sea. originally they thought it would be about a three-week job in the navy yard to repair. but admiral nimitz at this point had realized that the japanese were going to make this main effort a
