we will start with darren peck joining us in studio. good morning. >>> good morning.atch light rain in the north bay and it will have an impact on the morning commute. it shouldn't be major but still don't be surprised really between 7:00 and 9:00 this morning. you see the rain on the high def doppler. those showers will march across mainly sonoma, marin, napa. it looks good on futurecast. that gets us through the heart of the commute. there is 6:30. here is 8:30, starting to get down to the golden gate. we notice light showers from the golden gate south after 8:00 or 9:00. so really after the heart of the commute. they won't be heavy by the time they have done that. late morning to early afternoon for the heart of the bay, city, peninsula, east bay, south bay, inland valleys of the east bay, you will get light rain. it just won't be enough. towards 2:00 look at the break in the sky. there is blue sky. that will be nice to see. we haven't seen much of that. daytime highs will go to the upper 50s. for now we are in the low 50s. how does the drive look? >>> things are a

we will start with a look outside at weather and traffic with darren peck. >>> good morning. it is a little foggier than it was yesterday in some places. or a better way of saying that is it's gotten foggy earlier than it did yesterday in the north bay. it looks as gloomy from the camera on treasure island. towards the city, you can barely make out the skyline. as we look at current conditions, it's concord that's the only place officially reporting fog. look how warm it is, mid 50s in some places, 56 in san jose. another way of saying that is it is four degrees shy of 60. it's got to be more comfortable than you have been used to. petaluma is down below a mile. it will probably stay that way through the morning. expect fog for most inland valleys. a few other current temperatures shows us more mid 50s. just like yesterday the clouds aren't going to break a lot. it will stay mostly cloudy gray and mostly daytime highs that manage to climb to the upper 50s. there is rain for tomorrow morning. we'll look at that in the complete forecast. let's check with gianna to see how the d

we will start with a look on our weather and traffic beginning with darren peck. we got a gorgeous weekend after a rough foggy week. >>> we did. today will be a stellar example of how to make up for all that. plenty sunshine and highs back to the low 60s. we are starting with clouds though which did a big favor in terms of the way it feels to start the day. if we look at the current numbers, nobody is in the 30s right now. i mean the coldest numbers i have are low 40s. that would be 42 for livermore and fairfield, mid 40s, 50 in the city, 47 in san jose. it's a warm start thanks to the clouds. if we look to where we are going today, it will be sunshine across the whole day. we'll go to mid 60s in general most locations and sun is coming up at 7:25. by 9:00 or 10:00 in the morning we should have relatively clear skies. we'll look at that in futurecast as well as looking ahead in the seven-day forecast in the complete forecast. how is the drive? >>> it is doing all right. if you are up early getting ready to head out, we've got a lot of green to show you which is go

. >> we will start with darren peck. it is so cloudy, foggy, and rainy. >>> yeah. rain will be light today, amanda but it will be rainy. that's different from the last few days. we have had the clouds and today is the pay off where we have light showers. you see the light bands of rain that have been moving in. still haven't technically gotten to the bay area though we have some light misting. if we switch from the latest view of high def doppler looking at the bands of rain, watch that advance throughout the day, it is mainly a morning commute issue for rain through the north bay. this is looking at 6:30. you can see that's when some of the more impressive rain is starting to move along the 101 corridor. that would be when the rain starts to move through sonoma county. light rain showers, pretty persistent throughout the north bay all the way through 8:00 or 9:00 and by the time we get to the 10:00 hour in the morning, showers have made it towards the bay itself. we are looking at the rain just having made it down to the golden gate and moving south from there to

we will start with a look at our weather with darren peck. i hope the sunshine keeps coming. >>> it will. we got a few clouds yesterday and it looks like we'll have a few less to give us a little more sunshine today. but we have to deal with the same issue. we are missing the storms but there are a few clouds. they've helped in the overnight lows. there is nobody in the 30s. we'll probably see santa rosa and probably livermore will dip down in the upper 30s over the next two hours. for now you will still in the low 40s. there is not a lot of fog either. visibility censors are showing us everybody is over a mile. that means we don't have significant issues with fog on major roads or highways. the forecast for later today brings this back up once again into mid 60s. add a few clouds here or there but it shouldn't be any significant impact on the day. we'll take a look ahead in the long range, in the seven-day forecast and see how long we keep if like this certainly spotlighting the weekend and let you know what to expect for saturday and sunday

first we will check on our forecast with darren peck. sunshine, rain, a constant circle. >>> it will be both of those. the rain is tomorrow morning. the real headline for this morning is it's cloudy and foggy for some parts of the bay. inland east bay and north bay valleys waking up to patchy fog. it's also relatively warm in the mid 50s except concord where they're in the mid 40s. concord is one place where we are seeing visibility at the lowest, 0.3 of a mile. if you have to be on 101 north of the golden gate, plan on patchy fog there as well. clouds never really break today. it's going to stay gray pretty much all day. we only warm to the upper 50s which is about five or six degrees warmer than it is now, which isn't bad because it's a relatively warm start. there is rain tomorrow. if you look at the futurecast, that line of showers right there arrives just in time for tomorrow morning's commute. that is what we will focus on in the complete forecast in a few minutes. gianna. >>> it might be foggy as you head out as darren mentioned.

we will talk about that fog with darren peck. is it going to fade off soon? we have a lot of drivers on the road. >> the typical time will be about 11:00 before it really starts clearing significantly. it can be earlier in places. what's different is it is more widespread and in the heart of the bay. that's the bay bridge, looks pretty from above it, but you gotta drive through that on the deck of the bridge. it's not only there, entire east bay shoreline, peninsula, 280, 101 but it is not san jose. dense fog advisory does not include. hayward, your visibility is down to a half mile. it's less in the north bay valley. do you know who doesn't have a problem? inland valleys of the east bay. over concord, it is not foggy. we'll watch and see if anything develops for you guys. temperatures are in the low 40s but it's a cold 37 in livermore. that's part of that clear sky. this lasts until late morning and for the rest of today, more blue sky and we'll warm to the low and mid 60s again. i will have more in the forecast but for now let's see what gianna's got on the

let's get a check on weather and traffic starting with darren peck as we have our eyes set on the weekend. >> before we get there, friday morning has additional items to discuss like fog in places. san jose, you're now looking at fog and you can see from the camera looking out toward the east bay there is a patch of fog and it doesn't extend over the east bay communities. san jose reporting fog and the camera downtown does not show anything and at livermore, cold at 39 with no fog. in in santa rosa it's 38 but no fog however, petaluma does. you can see the low numbers on there. more on that coming up. for the rest of the day no widespread fog. most places are doing okay. and today is going to look and feel like the rest of this week has with temperatures in the low to mid 60s with high clouds out there and it will be a bit hazy. we will look ahead to the all- important weekend coming up in the complete forecast. how does the drive look? >> it's looking pretty good. commuters if you're getting ready to head out the door on the altamont pass it's not bad. no crashes. if you headed westbound

. >>> sending things over to meteorologist darren peck. >> it looks hazy over the last few days in the today as well, stuck in this pattern. does not look pretty but the haze as a result of the fact we have big blocking ridge of high pressure overhead, snowstorms getting here but trapping the air under the ridge. we keep recycling it each day. if there is good news, the forecast today is moderate not like we are breathing unhealthy levels of particular matter, it is moderate so you don't want to be out doing more than you need to. if you suffer from allergies, trapping all the pollen too. if you notice more itchy eyes or sneezing lately, thanks the same pattern. that is why this guy does not look pretty. the other half is, we keep pulling in high clouds. kind of like this soupy situation in the sky. high clouds coming from cut off load to the south, we don't get rain from that but it keeps throwing the clouds our way. haze down here trapped by the high. then we have the higher clouds sneaking in under the high giving us the layer. 30 sunsets, the clouds are like the campus when the sun

. >>> time for a check of weather with meteorologist darren peck. give us some good news. >>> we've got a beautiful day with a lot more blue sky but there is a stubborn patch of stratus in the bay. we have a great overview it this morning. this is our camera on black mountain in the hills above palo alto. you can see stanford right there. beyond that, there is a good batch of marine stratus still socked in for much of the bay. we don't have a fog advisory. most of this is just surviving over the water. we can look in a different way. we'll switch to the high resolution satellite. as we come for a closer look, it's the south bay over the water. you see how much it is filling in the bay. the camera we were looking at was in the hills from over there and looking over stanford to the extent of the clouds. give this another hour before it is gone. visibility readings are fine. none of these are reporting anything even close to a mile or below which is usually the threshold. we leave that behind. there is a possibility we can see more tomorrow. daytime hi

. >> meteorologist darren peck joins us with a look at whether we can expect more of the same. >> for the morning we could. it will stay this way through about 10:00 in the morning but high-def doppler looks exactly the way it did when we were on for the 7:00 newscast. it hasn't changed at all. there is still just a light band of rain misting. over most of the bay area. that is what the futurecast shows it will continue to do. from now through about 10:00. so, the rainfall totals have been pretty respectable considering how light this rain is. but we are going on almost close to 24 hour that's we have been getting light rain. mount tam is just ridiculous at three-and-a-half inches. that shows you how much the mountains have been able to wring out of the clouds but the totals have gone up since 7:00 down where we all live. san mateo, a quarter inch of rain. and for lafayette, almost half an inch. it is also breezy out there now. that will calm down by tomorrow morning. there is another chance of rain coming our way on friday. so, we'll look at that in the complete forecast in just a bi

darren peck is with us to find out how long this is going to go on and how long the drop will be. >> we've only got one more morning like this but tomorrow will be cold enough that there is a freeze warning for more of the bay area than we had this morning. these are current numbers, not even the lowe's yet and we're down into the mid-30s and the north bay and mid-30s for the cold inland valleys. freeze warning goes until 9:00 tomorrow morning, it is certainly including sonoma, county, petaluma, santa rosa, down to novato. and down in san jose, we talk more about the current, the actual forecast lows. i will show you your part of the bay coming up. but for right now, da lin is in santa rosa with a look at how those without a home are keeping warm tonight. >> reporter: can you see my breath? that is how cold it is. my fingers are freezing. even with these gloves on and for folks who don't have shelter they say this kind of weather can be dangerous. this is the third night, to the santa rosa warming center. >> it was cold, really cold. connecting homeless is tough enough but even worse

. >>> meteorologist darren peck joins us now with what is next. >> we have to take a moment to talk about 94 miles per hour. you might have heard that windspeed quoted from overnight last night. there was an 94 mile-per-hour wind gust in the bay area. it was not in the east bay hills or on mount diablo, that we hit 70 on mount diablo. it was in the north bay mountains, and it happened a little after midnight. you can see where healdsburg- santa rosa is. you have to get up to around 3000 feet, but there were two separate sensors. one hit 94 and another hit 89. that tells you so much about how the north bay mountains really are the example when we have a strong offshore wind event for where the most extreme conditions will be. if we watch the next few hour, the wind calms down. i will talk to you more about that, because we are coming to the close of this event. the high wind warning was allowed to expire at 4:00. here is what the gusts were like where you live. still strong, a lot coming in the overnight hours. things start to look a lot better going into tonight and tomorrow. we won't hav
